The Tribal Inheritance (Num. 26:52-56)

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  The tribal inheritance

 

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Numbers 26:52-56

 

            Message of the verses:  “52 ¶  Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 53  "Among these the land shall be divided for an inheritance according to the number of names.  54  "To the larger group you shall increase their inheritance, and to the smaller group you shall diminish their inheritance; each shall be given their inheritance according to those who were numbered of them.  55  "But the land shall be divided by lot. They shall receive their inheritance according to the names of the tribes of their fathers.  56  "According to the selection by lot, their inheritance shall be divided between the larger and the smaller groups.’”

            This begins a new section in Warren Wiersbe’s book entitled “Preparing for the Inheritance,” and it will cover the remainder of chapter 26 of Numbers along with the first eleven verses of chapter 27 and all of chapter 36.  It must be remembered that Israel was about to enter the Promised Land in a few days and they would only have one more battle before they go into the land to conquer it.  Moses would soon die, but he would spend his remaining days getting this generation ready to take their inheritance, and part of that preparation would be writing the book of Deuteronomy.

            In the verses that are covered today God gives Moses some instruction on how the land would be divided up among the different tribes of Israel.  It must be remembered that this would be done by faith that the Lord would do as He promised that He would do.  Another thing that I want to point out is that sin had caused some of the tribes to loose population because of different plagues that caused death to many of their tribesmen and so their inheritance would be cut down and they would not receive larger plots of land.

 

            Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Sin causes many problems in my life and the problems that it causes are even sometimes hard to see, and that is not good.  I have a desire to live my life for Christ, but sometimes the flesh and even the world system get into my way and they cause me to stumble and fall and just as some of these tribes would miss out on larger inheritance’s so I may too miss out on jewels for my crown in heaven.

 

My Steps of Faith for Today:

 

1. Trust the Lord to guide my path.
2. I want to learn more about the Lord so I can know Him better and serve Him better.
3. I want to learn contentment.
