Animals Injured or Killed (Ex. 21:33-36)

6/28/2008 7:40 AM

My Worship Time           Focus:  Animals injured or killed

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Exodus 21:33-36

Message of the verses:  “33  "If a man opens a pit, or digs a pit and does not cover it over, and an ox or a donkey falls into it, 34  the owner of the pit shall make restitution; he shall give money to its owner, and the dead animal shall become his.

35  "If one man’s ox hurts another’s so that it dies, then they shall sell the live ox and divide its price equally; and also they shall divide the dead ox.  36  "Or if it is known that the ox was previously in the habit of goring, yet its owner has not confined it, he shall surely pay ox for ox, and the dead animal shall become his.”

In these four verses God gives laws concerning animals and what happens if an animal dies or is killed at the fault of another person or person’s animal.

When the children of Israel would get into the Promised Land most of them would be farmers and therefore there animals would be very important to them for tilling the land and also for food, so if a person’s animal was killed from the neglect of another person of person’s animal it would cause hardship to the family whose animal was destroyed.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  There are principles in these laws that I have read about this morning that can apply to life in the 21st century America today.  I am responsible for my actions, actions such as driving my car and hurting someone while driving, or damaging someone’s car.  These laws show the justice of God and they also are important for the society that people live in here on planet earth.

If I look at these laws in response to Sandy’s case of malpractice then I would think that the doctor who did the malpractice is responsible to compensate her for the damage that was done to her body.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Trust the Lord to care for me as I prepare to go to Hawaii on this new job with HRSG.
  2. Be yoked with the Lord Jesus Christ today because I need his strength to get through each and every day of my life.
  3. Trust the Lord to make away of escape when the trials, tests, and temptations become more for me to bear.
  4. Trust the Lord to guide me onto the path He wants me on.
  5. Give myself to the Lord today for service and worship.
  6. Pray that I will learn contentment through the trials, tests, and temptations that I go through.

Memory verses for the week:                      Colossians 4:12-13

12.    Epaphras, who is one of you number, a bondslave of Jesus Christ, sends you his greetings, always laboring earnestly for you in his prayers, that you may stand perfect and fully assured in all of the will of God.

13.    For I testify for him that he has a deep concern for you and for those who are in Laodicea and Hierapolis.
