Passover Instructions (Ex. 12:21-24)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time           Focus:  Passover instructions

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Exodus 12:21-24

Message of the verses:  “21 ¶  Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, "Go and take for yourselves lambs according to your families, and slay the Passover lamb.  22  "You shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and apply some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outside the door of his house until morning.  23  "For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to smite you.

24  "And you shall observe this event as an ordinance for you and your children forever.”

I am not sure how many times some of these instructions for the Passover are mentioned in the OT, but there are many different times when instructions are given to the children of Israel on how to conduct themselves during the Passover celebration.  In the above verses Moses is giving the Passover instructions to the children of Israel for the “death angel” will be coming on this night.  Moses tells the children of Israel to take the blood of the Passover lamb and use a hyssop branch to apply this blood to the lintel and the basin of the two doorposts so that when the “death angel” comes to smite the first born he will see the blood and pass over the house.  Moses goes on to say to them that this is not a one time event, but they are to observe this event each year.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  This is a good lesson for me to remember what it cost God and His Son to allow the death angel to pass over me, for without the blood of the Lamb my fate would be completely different that what it is since Jan. 26, 1974.
