The Keeping of the Mana (Ex. 16:19-21)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time           Focus:  The keeping of the manna

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Exodus 16:19-21

Message of the verses:  “19  Moses said to them, "Let no man leave any of it until morning."  20  But they did not listen to Moses, and some left part of it until morning, and it bred worms and became foul; and Moses was angry with them.

21  They gathered it morning by morning, every man as much as he should eat; but when the sun grew hot, it would melt.”

The children of Israel were warned not to leave any of the manna until the next morning, for if they did it would spoil and they would not be able to eat it.  Why would God tell them not to keep any to the next day, and why on the Sabbath day did it not spoil?  The answer to both questions is that that is the way God had designed it and God does not have to tell His people everything, nor should His people expect Him to.  However it could be that God desired His people to rise up early before the sun got hot and gather the manna, and it was His design for His people to rest on the Sabbath day following His example when creating the earth.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The example for me in this section is to rise up early and spend time with the Lord in His Word to find strength to live my life in a pleasing way to the Lord each day.  I believe this should be one of the very first things that I do each and every day, and by God’s grace He has given me this very desire to begin my day with Him and for that desire I am very thankful.  I do not ever want this to become a ritual, but a genuine time with the Lord each morning to get my marching orders.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  I am keeping the same steps of faith each day because they are good and biblical steps of faith to keep, however if I am led by the Spirit of God to amend these I will do so, and I do not want to just write them down, but think about them as I do this.  Continue to trust the Lord to lead me as Proverbs 3:5-6 speaks of, continue to yoke up with the Lord as Matthew 11:28-20 speak of, continue to learn contentment as Phil. 4:11 speak of, and continue to trust the Lord to handle my temptations as 1 Cor. 10:13 speaks of.

Memory verses for the week:                      Matthew 11:28-30

28.    Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.

29.    Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

30.    For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.
