God's Promise is Fulfilled (Ex. 16:16b-21)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time           Focus:  God’s promise is fulfilled

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference: Exodus 15:16b-21

Message of the verses: “16b Until Your people pass over, O LORD, until the people pass over whom You have purchased.  17  "You will bring them and plant them in the mountain of Your inheritance, The place, O LORD, which You have made for Your dwelling, The sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established.18  "The LORD shall reign forever and ever.’”

19 For the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, and the LORD brought back the waters of the sea on them, but the sons of Israel walked on dry land through the midst of the sea.  20 Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took the timbrel in her hand, and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dancing.  21 Miriam answered them, "Sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted; The horse and his rider He has hurled into the sea.’”

Dr. Wiersbe suggests that this song ends with verse eighteen.

The last part of verse sixteen tells the reader that God purchased the children of Israel.  It seems to me that the Exodus, and all that was involved in it, is a picture of Jesus Christ purchasing the salvation for His people from the slave market of sin, for Egypt was purchased by God from their slavery in Egypt by the miracles that accompanied the Exodus. It was the miracle of miracles that Jesus Christ purchased salvation for all of those that are drawn to Him.

God purchased the children of Israel out of Egypt to go into the land of Canaan, and as a believer I have been purchased out of the slave market of sin to go out and work for the Lord Jesus Christ, for His cause, and I will dwell with the Lord forever as stated in verse seventeen.

Verse eighteen tells that the Lord will reign forever and ever, as there has never been a time when he did not reign, nor will there ever be a time when He will not reign.

Verses nineteen through twenty-one speak of the celebration that was led by Miriam because of the victory that was given to the children of Israel as all of the Egyptians who were chasing them were drowned in the sea. Dr. Wiersbe states that this is the only time when Miriam’s name is mentioned in the book of Exodus.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I believe that it is a problem at times with believers today who do not realize that they are not only saved from sin, but saved to serve.  I have been saved from the slave market of sin, which I was born into and had NO way of getting out of being a slave to sin with my own efforts, but by God’s grace He saved me through the work of Christ on the cross, and now I am free to serve the Lord through the works that He has planned for me in eternity past.  “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”  (Eph. 2:10)  The point in all of this is that I was saved from something to something.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  I want to continue to trust the Lord to see me through the trials that He is sending me through, that I may glorify Him as I go through these trials and that I may learn contentment as I go through these trials.  I want to, by faith, yoke up with the Lord Jesus Christ today as stated in Matthew 11:28-30.  I want to trust the Lord to help me to remember 1 Cor. 10:13 when I am tempted.

Memory verse for the week:                                   Matthew 11:28-30

28.    Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden and I will give you rest.

29.    Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

30.    For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.
