God's Weapons Are Described (Ex. 15:6-10)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time           Focus:  God’s weapons are described

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Exodus 15:6-10

Message of the verses:  “6  "Your right hand, O LORD, is majestic in power, Your right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy.  7  "And in the greatness of Your excellence You overthrow those who rise up against You; You send forth Your burning anger, and it consumes them as chaff.  8  "At the blast of Your nostrils the waters were piled up, The flowing waters stood up like a heap; The deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea.  9  "The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; My desire shall be gratified against them; I will draw out my sword, my hand will destroy them.’  10  "You blew with Your wind, the sea covered them; They sank like lead in the mighty waters.”

The writer is using human terms to describe God, for God is Spirit and thus does not have a body.  This is why the Lord Jesus Christ came to earth in a body so that humans could see him could touch him.  “What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life—and the life was manifested.”  This is from the letter of 1 John 1:1-2a.  The word that theologians use to describe God as Spirit having human hands, feet, nose, and etc. is anthropomorphism.  The Encarta Dictionary describes this word as “attribution of human characteristics to nonhumans.”

The writer in this section describes some of the weapons of God that He used to take care of the Egyptians.  He speaks of His right hand having power, His nostrils as the blowing of the wind to stand up the water so that Israel could walk through on dry ground and then to cover up the sea after the Egyptians were in it in order to drown them.  In verse nine the writer speaks of the pride of the Egyptians, pride that would cause their termination.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  There are a couple of things that hit home to me in this section.  God’s power is awesome, and I try only to use this work to describe God and the things that God alone does.  The next thing that I see here is the pride and arrogance of the Egyptians as they went right in after the children of Israel not thinking that this was going to cause their demise.  Pride is something that I have to deal with from time to time, and something that has gotten me into trouble too, but something that I do not wish will cause problems in my life for I want to only fear the Lord, and if I do that then the things that happen in my life will not cause me to be puffed up over.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  I trust that the Lord will work out all of the details in order that I will be able to go and talk to Andy sometime this week.  I have wanted to do this for a long time, and it looks like this week will be the week that I can get this done.  My prayer is that the conversations that I have with him will be something that will be good for us as investors with him, and most of all will bring glory to the Lord who is in control of all of this and will work it out for our good and for His glory.

I want to yoke up with the Lord Jesus Christ this morning as described in Matthew 11:28-30.  I pray that the Lord will make 1 Cor. 10:13 true in my life today, and that He will continue to teach me contentment through the trials of life.

Memory verses for the week:                      Matthew 11:28-30

28.    Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.

29.    Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

30.    For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.
