SPIRITUAL DIARY

Bible Reading & Meditation               Focus:  God’s victory is announced

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Exodus 15:1-5

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the LORD, and said, "I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted; The horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea.  2  "The LORD is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation; This is my God, and I will praise Him; My father’s God, and I will extol Him.  3  "The LORD is a warrior; The LORD is His name.  4  "Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea; And the choicest of his officers are drowned in the Red Sea.  5  "The deeps cover them; They went down into the depths like a stone.”

This begins a new chapter in Exodus, and the first part of this chapter is a song to the Lord that praises the Lord for the freedom that Israel now has from their slavery from the Egyptians.  A Dr Wiersbe point out that the song has four stanzas and the first one is “God’s victory is announced.”

These are great verses of praise and worship to the Lord who had just drowned the enemies of Israel and rescued Israel from the slavery that they had endured for four-hundred years.  They were now free from this slavery of the Egyptians.

“In heaven, the tribulation saints will sing’ the song of Moses…and the song of the Lamb’ (Rev. 15).  Israel sang by an earthly sea, but they will sing by the heavenly ‘sea of glass, mingled with fire.’  Israel sang after seeing God’s judgments poured out on one nation, but the heavenly saints sing before the angels pour out the seven bowls of wrath on the whole world.  In both instances, God’s power is revealed and God’s name is glorified.”  (From Dr. Wiersbe’s book on Exodus)

Verse three speaks of the LORD as a warrior, and some people have a problem with this, yet the Lord Jesus Christ was not only the Lamb of God, but He also was the Lion of the tribe of Judah.  God has Satan as an enemy, as His children do, and God has sin as an enemy, as His children do too, thus there is warfare between God’s children and God’s enemies.  Paul speaks of this warfare in Ephesians the sixth chapter.  To only speak that God is love and not speak of God’s justice is robbing God of that attribute, and that is wrong.  It takes courage and strength to be a child of God, for the child of God is living on foreign soil and therefore must do battle for the Lord and in the Lord’s power and strength.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  These first five verses of this song are so rich in their praise and worship of God, and are so inspiring to my heart.  God is worthy to receive my worship and all of my praise goes to the Lord for He has given me salvation, and even though I still sin, there will come a day when sin will not be the problem that it is now.  Jesus told the Pharisees that they were slaves to sin, and Jesus has paid for my sin and my slavery to sin and I praise and worship Him for His great salvation.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  To praise and worship the Lord at GBC this morning, praising the Lord for the gift of Matthew, our grandson, who God had prepared to be the son of Kim and Tim from eternity past, and it is today that he will be dedicated to the Lord.

To yoke up with the Lord Jesus Christ as stated in Matthew 11:28-30, to continue to learn contentment, and to seek the Lord’s help in overcoming temptation of a sin that occupies to much of my time.
