SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time Focus: The distance between God and the people
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Exodus 19:12-13, 20-25
Message of the verses: “12
"You shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, ‘Beware
that you do not go up on the mountain or touch the border of it; whoever
touches the mountain shall surely be put to death. 13 ‘No
hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot through; whether
beast or man, he shall not live.’ When the ram’s horn sounds a long blast, they
shall come up to the mountain.’”
20 The LORD came down on Mount
Sinai , to the top of the mountain; and the LORD called Moses to
the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.
21 Then the LORD spoke to Moses,
"Go down, warn the people, so that they do not break through to the LORD
to gaze, and many of them perish.
22 "Also let the priests who
come near to the LORD consecrate themselves, or else the LORD will break out
against them." 23 Moses said to the LORD, "The people
cannot come up to Mount Sinai , for You warned
us, saying, ‘Set bounds about the mountain and consecrate it.’" 24
Then the LORD said to him, "Go down and come up again, you and
Aaron with you; but do not let the priests and the people break through to come
up to the LORD, or He will break forth upon them." 25 So
Moses went down to the people and told them.”
In his
commentary on this section of Exodus Dr. Wiersbe brings out the importance of
keeping ones distance from God in the OT times, but since the Lord Jesus Christ
has already come to earth to be a perfect sacrifice for sin believers can now
draw near to God because of Christ’s perfect sacrifice. The people spoken of in this section had to
keep their distance from God or be killed, and when the Tabernacle was built
there was a fence around it and there was a veil between the holy place and the
Holy of Holies and only the high priest could go into the Holy of Holies and
only once a year and then he could not enter without the blood of a sacrifice. The Ark of the Covenant could not be touched
for that was very holy and that is where the blood was applied by the high
priest. In Hebrews 12:18-29 there is a
good commentary on this section of Exodus.
Jesus
Christ came to earth and one of His names is Immanuel—God with us, see Matthew
1:23. When Jesus died on the cross the
veil that was between the holy place and the holy of holies was torn into from
the top to the bottom showing all that those who were believer in the One true
God through Jesus Christ could come into the very presence of God, for all NT
believers are priest as was seen in 1 Peter a few SD’s back.
There is a
word of warning to all NT believers and that is that God is our Father and He
is far above us and we can come to Him but we will never be equal to Him and
therefore we need to have great reverence for Him, but we can come to Him
unlike those in the OT could.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: The thing that I want to remember is that God
is my Father and because He is my Father I need to have that fearful reverence
towards Him always, for there are times when I will try and bring Him down to
my level and when I do that I am totally wrong.
My Steps of Faith for
Today: I want to remember that I am
to have fear and reverence towards my Holy Father, His Son and His Holy Spirit.
I want to
be yoked with the Lord Jesus Christ today.
I want to remember that God will take care of my temptations and even
take them away from me as I call on Him when I am tempted and not think about
them when they come to me.
Memory verses for the week: Colossians
4:;12-13
12.
Epaphras, who is one of your number, a bondslave
of Jesus Christ, sends you his greetings, always laboring earnestly for you in
his prayers, that you may stand perfect and fully assured in all the will of
God.
13.
For I testify for him that he has a deep concern
for you and for those who are in Laodicea and Hierapolis .
