Passover And Jesus Christ (Various Verses)

4/17/2008 8:39 AM

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time           Focus:  Passover and Jesus Christ

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Various verses

Message of the verses:  This SD will be somewhat different than any other one that I have ever done.  I am going to take some verses, mostly out of the New Testament and examine them showing that Jesus Christ is the real Passover Lamb.  Because of my study in the book of Exodus, the Passover is first celebrated in this book and so as an introduction to this wonderful subject I first want to briefly look at Jesus Christ as the real Passover Lamb.

I believe that Jesus Christ died at the exact time when the Jewish nation was slaughtering there Passover Lambs, at 3:00 in the afternoon.  The Passover Celebration was celebrated in Israel because of the deliverance of the nation of Israel from slavery to the nation of Egypt.  When Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of the world He delivered all who would ever believe in Him from the slavery of sin.  Jesus Himself told the Pharisees that they were indeed slaves to sin, as all people are who are born descendents of Adam, that needing to be delivered from this slavery.

Now I want to copy some of the verses that show that the Lamb is a type of Jesus Christ because the NT makes this clear.  Acts 8:32-35 “32  Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this: "HE WAS LED AS A SHEEP TO SLAUGHTER; AND AS A LAMB BEFORE ITS SHEARER IS SILENT, SO HE DOES NOT OPEN HIS MOUTH.  33  "IN HUMILIATION HIS JUDGMENT WAS TAKEN AWAY; WHO WILL RELATE HIS GENERATION? FOR HIS LIFE IS REMOVED FROM THE EARTH."  34  The eunuch answered Philip and said, "Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself or of someone else?"  35  Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him.”  Isa. 53:7-8 “7  He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth.  8  By oppression and judgment He was taken away; And as for His generation, who considered That He was cut off out of the land of the living For the transgression of my people, to whom the stroke was due?”  1 Cor. 5:7 “7 ¶  Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.”  1 Peter 1:18-20 “18  knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19  but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. 20  For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you.”  Rev. 5:5-6 “5  and one of the elders *said to me, "Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals."

6 ¶  And I saw between the throne (with the four living creatures) and the elders a Lamb standing, as if slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth.”  Rev. 13:8 “  All who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The fact that Jesus Christ was my Passover Lamb has as much significance to me as any subject in the entire Bible, for this shows that He died in my place for me so that I can be delivered from the slave market of sin and have eternal life with Him.  I cannot express how thankful and grateful that I am for what He has done for me, nor can I express how unworthy I am to receive such a wonderful blessing as this.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  To live in light of this wonderful blessing that was given to me that I do not deserve.  To yoke up with my Lord Jesus Christ as described in Matthew 11:28-30 “28  "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.  29  "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.  30  "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

Memory verses for the week:                      Philippians 3:7-8

  1. But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ.
  2. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Jesus Christ my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish to gain Christ.
