The Testimony (Ex 17:14-16)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time           Focus:  The Testimony

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Exodus 17:14-16

Message of the verses: 14  Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write this in a book as a memorial and recite it to Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven."  15  Moses built an altar and named it The LORD is My Banner; 16  and he said, "The LORD has sworn; the LORD will have war against Amalek from generation to generation.’”

14  Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven." 15  Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner.  16  He said, "For hands were lifted up to the throne of the LORD. The LORD will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.’”  (NIV)

Moses gave the glory for this victory to the Lord and the Lord promised that He would have war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.

There is a history between the Amalekites throughout the OT and I want to take a look at some of the details of this in this SD remembering that God is the One who created time and He does not live according to time as we humans do.

Israel fought the Amalekites and lost Numbers 14:45:  “Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites who lived in that hill country came down, and struck them and beat them down as far as Hormah.”  Gideon conquered them along with the Midianites as seen in Judges 16.  There is a little irony in the next one as King Saul was told to kill all the Amalekites by God through Samuel but failed to do so and thus God would choose David to be king and leave Saul, but the irony of this is that King Saul was killed by an Amalekites.  See 2 Samuel 1:1-16.  David fought them and won a victory against them in 1 Samuel 30.  He also subdued them in 2 Samuel 8:11-12.  During Hezekiah’s reign he annihilated the few Amalekites who still remained.  Dr. Wiersbe writes that “God’s judgment of the Amalekites teaches us that you can’t attack the throne of God and get away with it.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  God will keep His Word even though it sometimes takes a lot of time to do it, but I must remember that God is never in a hurry, but He is never late.  I need to remember to confess my sins to the Lord so that I will not be disciplined by the Lord for not doing so.

My Steps of Faith for Today:   I want to have a better prayer life like Epaphras had in Col. 4:12; I want to yoke up with the Lord Jesus Christ as seen in Matthew 11:28-30; I want to trust the Lord to guide my steps as seen in Proverbs 3:5-6; I want to trust the Lord to continue to teach me contentment as seen in Phil. 4:11; and I want to trust the Lord to deliver me from temptation as seen in 1 Cor. 10:13.

Memory verse for the week:                                   Col. 4:12

12.    Epaphras, who is one of your number, a bondslave of Jesus Christ, sends you his greetings, always laboring earnestly for you in his prayers, that you may stand perfect and fully assured in all the will of God.
