The Enemy (Ex. 17:8)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time           Focus:  The enemy

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Exodus 17:8

Message of the verses:  “8 ¶ Then Amalek came and fought against Israel at Rephidim.”

“3  When the going gets rough, take it on the chin with the rest of us, the way Jesus did.  4  A soldier on duty doesn’t get caught up in making deals at the marketplace. He concentrates on carrying out orders.”  2 Tim. 2:3-4

Yes the believer in Jesus Christ has many enemies and the devil is first on the list of his enemies along with the world system and the flesh.  The enemy that Israel was about to fight was the Amalekites, which descended from Jacob’s brother Esau.  “12  Timna was a concubine of Esau’s son Eliphaz and she bore Amalek to Eliphaz. These are the sons of Esau’s wife Adah. These are the sons of Esau’s wife Adah.16 Chief Korah, chief Gatam, chief Amalek. These are the chiefs descended from Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Adah.”  (Genesis 36:12,16)

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  It is a good reminder to me to realize that there are enemies that want to destroy me just because I am a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.  It is also a good reminder to me to realize that God is the One who is in control of my life and He will never leave me nor forsake me.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  To remember what the Lord Jesus Christ did for me on the cross at Calvary, and that He will return to take me to be with Him someday.  To remember that God is teaching me contentment, (Phil. 4:11); that God will take care of my temptations as seen in 1 Cor. 10:13; that the Lord will direct my path (Proverbs 3:5-6); and that if I yoke up with the Lord Jesus Christ today He will give me rest, (Matthew 11:28-30).

Memory verses for the week:                      2 Cor. 12:9-10

9  And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

10  Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.
