Pharaoh Tells Another Lie (Ex. 9:27-35)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time           Focus:  Pharaoh tells another lie.

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Exodus 9:27-35

Message of the verses:  “27  Then Pharaoh sent for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, "I have sinned this time; the LORD is the righteous one, and I and my people are the wicked ones.  28  "Make supplication to the LORD, for there has been enough of God’s thunder and hail; and I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer."  29  Moses said to him, "As soon as I go out of the city, I will spread out my hands to the LORD; the thunder will cease and there will be hail no longer, that you may know that the earth is the LORD’S.  30  "But as for you and your servants, I know that you do not yet fear the LORD God."  31  (Now the flax and the barley were ruined, for the barley was in the ear and the flax was in bud.  32  But the wheat and the spelt were not ruined, for they ripen late.)  33  So Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread out his hands to the LORD; and the thunder and the hail ceased, and rain no longer poured on the earth.  34  But when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunder had ceased, he sinned again and hardened his heart, he and his servants.  35  Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not let the sons of Israel go, just as the LORD had spoken through Moses.”

This section tells that Pharaoh admits to Moses that he has sinned, and even said that Israel was the righteous people and Egypt was the wicked people, but he goes on to ask Moses to intercede for him so that God would stop the hail.  Pharaoh asks Moses to make supplication to the Lord, and this is the reason he admits he sinned and that is stated in verse 28b, “for there has been enough of God’s thunder and hail.”  Pharaoh’s heart is hard, he has no fear of the Lord, he only wants to finagle his way with Moses and his God until he gets what he wants and then he would not let Israel go, he would keep them as slaves.  The confession was not true as proved by verse thirty-five where it says, “Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not let the sons of Israel go, just as the LORD had spoken through Moses.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I must be very careful not to ask God for something only to get my way and then turn my back on the Lord.  There is another thing from this section I need to practice, and that is when I confess something to the Lord I must be sincere, not confess something just to get my way.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  Yoke up with the Lord Jesus Christ.  Trust the Lord to handle the things that are on our plat at this time things that need an answer, trusting the Lord for He is never in a hurry, but never late.
