SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time Focus: The danger
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Exodus 18:17-18
Message of the verses: “17
Moses’ father-in-law said to him, "The thing that you are doing is
not good. 18 "You will surely wear out, both yourself
and these people who are with you, for the task is too heavy for you; you
cannot do it alone.”
I believe
that there are times when a person is doing a great work for the Lord and is so
involved in that work that, that is all they are able to see and so they begin
to work themselves to death without realizing it. That person may be thinking that I am the
only one capable to do this work, and forget that they are doing the work for
an all sufficient God who can do anything.
In the case of Moses, I believe that God sent him there, (as I said in
yesterday’s SD) to show Moses the error of his ways, and in these two verses
Jethro tells Moses that what he is doing is not good. Jethro saw what Moses was doing, and now he
tells him what he is doing is bad for him, and then he will give a suggestion
on how to make life easier on him. After
all Moses was married to Jethro’s daughter and was the father of his
grandchildren so Jethro truly cared for him and did not want him to work
himself to death.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: The thing that I can learn, or have
re-enforced in my life is that God cares for me and will send people into my
life in order to help with the work that I am doing. This may be physical work or it may be both
physical and spiritual work, for I believe that even physical work is spiritual
too. Going to work with the WEBBS team
at our church building is a good example of this.
My Steps of Faith for
Today: I desire to be a prayer
worrier like Epaphras as seen in Col. 4:12; to be one who is led by the Lord as
seen in Pr. 3:5-6; to learn contentment as Paul writes about in Philippians
4:11; to handle temptation like is seen in 1 Cor. 10:13; and to be yoked with
my Lord Jesus Christ as He speaks of in Matthew 11:28-30.
Memory verses for the week: Col.
4:12
12.
Epaphras, who is one of your number, a bondslave
of Jesus Christ, sends you his greetings, always laboring earnestly for you in
his prayers, that you may stand perfect and fully assured in all the will of God.
