Invasion of the Locusts (Ex. 10:12-15)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time           Focus:  Invasion of the locusts

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Exodus 10:12-15

Message of the verses:  “12 ¶  Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up on the land of Egypt and eat every plant of the land, even all that the hail has left."  13  So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and the LORD directed an east wind on the land all that day and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.  14  The locusts came up over all the land of Egypt and settled in all the territory of Egypt; they were very numerous. There had never been so many locusts, nor would there be so many again.  15  For they covered the surface of the whole land, so that the land was darkened; and they ate every plant of the land and all the fruit of the trees that the hail had left. Thus nothing green was left on tree or plant of the field through all the land of Egypt.”

Now because Pharaoh’s heart was again hardened and would not let Israel go Moses went out from his presences and stretched out his hand over Egypt and then God caused an East wind to blow throughout the day and night which brought more locusts than had ever been seen in Egypt, and there will never be that many again in the land of Egypt.  These locusts ate everything that was green in at a very rapid pace and left nothing green in the land of Egypt.

Locusts are mentioned a number of times in the Scripture and there are several different Hebrew words that are translated locust.  The Jews were allowed to eat certain kinds of locusts, as John the Baptist did while he was alive.  The prophet Joes spoke of an invading army as locusts coming on the land, so locusts were certainly a part of Israel’s history.  There are actually sixteen verses in the Bible (AV) that have the word locusts in them, and two of them are in the book of Revelations.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Locusts can do damage to crops just as sin can eat away at my heart and cause my heart to be less useful for the cause of Christ, so I must guard my heart.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  To yoke up with the Lord Jesus Christ as He spoke of in Matthew 11.  To continue to trust the Lord through this difficult time that we are going through, a time that has been very hard on us, but has been rich in blessings.

Memory verses for the week:                      Philippians 3:7-8

  1. But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ.
  2. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ.
