SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                              Focus:  God would go before Israel

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Deuteronomy 7:20-21

Message of the verses:  “20  "Moreover, the LORD your God will send the hornet against them, until those who are left and hide themselves from you perish. 21  "You shall not dread them, for the LORD your God is in your midst, a great and awesome God.”

These two verses speak of God going before Israel as they conquer the nations that were in the Promised Land at that time.  It also gives the promise that God was with them.  This promise of God being with them goes all the way back to the forefathers Jacob and Isaac and is with the Church today as Jesus repeated this promises before He went up into heaven in Matthew 28:18-20.  The writer to the Hebrews also repeats this promise:  “5  Let your manner of living be without covetousness, and be content with such things as ye have. For He hath said, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee"; 6  so that we may boldly say, "The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.’”

One more thing that has caught my eye this morning from verse twenty-one and that is that the Lord tells these people that they are not to fear them because He was in their midst, and then He goes on to say that He is a great and awesome God.  I hear this word among the young people today as they always seem to be saying “awesome” and so I looked it up in the online Bible dictionary and find that it means to be fearful of, and so this verse could say that Israel should not fear their enemies but they should fear the Lord.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Like most people I have fears and one of my fears is to drive in my van or car because I have IBS and it was the worst while living in Aruba for I had to drive about fifteen miles through a strange country in order to get to where I was working and the car had no potty in it like my van has.  I confessed this to the Lord and He delivered me from this fear at that time even though I still have some of the same fears today as this is a constant battle for me.  I am not to fear anything for God has not given me a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind and I am only to fear the Lord an nothing else.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Remember that the Lord is always with me and will never leave me.
  2. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
  3. Continue to learn contentment.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Ephesians 1:1-8

6.        to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.

7.        In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace

8.        which He lavished on us.  In all wisdom and insight
