SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time Focus: The grace of God
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Deuteronomy 9:1-6
Message of the verses: “1 ¶
"Hear, O Israel! You are crossing over the Jordan today to go in to
dispossess nations greater and mightier than you, great cities fortified to
heaven, 2 a people great and tall, the
sons of the Anakim, whom you know and of whom you have heard it said, ‘Who can
stand before the sons of Anak?’ 3
"Know therefore today that it is the LORD your God who is crossing
over before you as a consuming fire. He will destroy them and He will subdue
them before you, so that you may drive them out and destroy them quickly, just
as the LORD has spoken to you. 4 "Do
not say in your heart when the LORD your God has driven them out before you,
‘Because of my righteousness the LORD has brought me in to possess this land,’
but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD is
dispossessing them before you. 5
"It is not for your righteousness or for the uprightness of your
heart that you are going to possess their land, but it is because of the
wickedness of these nations that the LORD your God is driving them out before
you, in order to confirm the oath which the LORD swore to your fathers, to
Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. 6 "Know,
then, it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving
you this good land to possess, for you are a stubborn people.”
I want to
begin by saying that the word “today” in verse one did not mean the day in
which Moses gave this address, but it was a period of time like the “day of
creation” which took six days or the “day of the Lord.”
Moses again
reminds this generation of the children of Israel that it was only by the
grace of God that they will be able to go into the Promised Land and conquer it
and that they are not to think that it is because of their righteousness that
God was giving them this land. God had
promised Abraham a long time before this that He would give this land to his
descendants, and the nations that lived in this land now were a wicked nation
so God would use Israel
to punish them.
“God would
go before them to help them defeat their enemies. He wouldn’t do it instead of them, for they
had to do their part and fight the battles, nor would He do it in spite of
them, for they had to be obedient and respect His laws; but He would work in
them and through them to conquer the nations in the land (Phil. 2:12-13; Prov.
21:31).” “12. So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed,
not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your
salvation with fear and trembling; 13.
for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His
good pleasure. 31 The horse is prepared
for the day of battle, But victory belongs to the LORD.”
Spiritual meaning for my life today: At times the things that I am writing about
are difficult for me and for others to understand, where God leaves off and my
work begins. Paul writes in Phil. 2:12
that I am to work out my own salvation, and then goes on in verse thirteen to
say that it is God at work in me both to will and to work for His good
pleasure, so this may sound a bit confusing.
I believe that the word “salvation” in verse twelve means a different
part of the salvation that was given to me when I was saved as my salvation
will be complete whenever I am finally with the Lord, but this is the
sanctification part of my salvation and I have to allow the Lord to work in me
in order to have the power to work for His good pleasure.
My Steps of Faith for
Today:
- To be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man.
- To remember that it is by the grace of God that I have what I have both spiritually and physically.
- To continue to learn contentment.
- To give myself to the Lord for worship and service today.
Memory verses for the week: Ephesians
1:5-9
- He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to His kind intention of His will,
- to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.
- In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
- which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight
- He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him
