SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time Focus:
Temptations from the prophets
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Deuteronomy 13:1-5
Message of the verses: “1 ¶
"If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you
a sign or a wonder, 2 and the sign or
the wonder comes true, concerning which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go
after other gods (whom you have not known) and let us serve them,’ 3 you shall not listen to the words of that
prophet or that dreamer of dreams; for the LORD your God is testing you to find
out if you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
4 "You shall follow the LORD your
God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice,
serve Him, and cling to Him. 5 "But
that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has
counseled rebellion against the LORD your God who brought you from the land of
Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery, to seduce you from the way in
which the LORD your God commanded you to walk. So you shall purge the evil from
among you.”
Warren
Wiersbe, in his commentary on this section says that there is a difference of
opinion as to whether or not this person was a true prophet, but he believes
that he was because of the first verse.
Good prophets could go bad just as true pastors and leaders can go bad
and the punishment in the nation of Israel for this was to stone that person. The Word of God was the benchmark as to
whether or not this prophet would be telling the truth for the Word of God says
that a person should not worship idols and this prophet gone bad is trying to
get people to worship idols. In today’s
church there can be true believers gone bad that for the love of money and
other reasons can get involved in a cult or begin a cult. The punishment for this in the church today
is different than that of Moses’ time in the nation of Israel , for we
cannot stone this person, but we can take them out of the church.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: If a person sins and does not repent of that
sin then they can be disciplined by taking them from the church. My prayer is that will never happen to me.
My Steps of Faith for Today:
- Trust the Lord to guide my path.
- Keep short accounts with the Lord.
- Trust the Lord to continue to teach me contentment.
- Give myself to the Lord for service and worship.
Memory verses for the week: Ephesians
1:5-9
- In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,
- to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.
- In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses according to the riches of His grace
- which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight
- He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him
