SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time Focus: Obey because of God’s care
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Deut. 10:21-11:7
Message of the verses: “21
"He is your praise and He is your God, who has done these great and
awesome things for you which your eyes have seen. 22 "Your fathers went down to Egypt seventy
persons in all, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars
of heaven.
1 ¶ "You shall therefore love the LORD your
God, and always keep His charge, His statutes, His ordinances, and His
commandments. 2 "Know this day that
I am not speaking with your sons who have not known and who have not seen the
discipline of the LORD your God—His greatness, His mighty hand and His
outstretched arm, 3 and His signs and
His works which He did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh the king of Egypt and
to all his land; 4 and what He did to
Egypt’s army, to its horses and its chariots, when He made the water of the Red
Sea to engulf them while they were pursuing you, and the LORD completely
destroyed them; 5 and what He did to you
in the wilderness until you came to this place; 6 and what He did to Dathan and Abiram, the
sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben, when the earth opened its mouth and swallowed
them, their households, their tents, and every living thing that followed them,
among all Israel— 7 but your own eyes
have seen all the great work of the LORD which He did.”
Even though
I have covered verses twenty-one and twenty-two of chapter ten in yesterday’s
SD they are still used in today’s SD as they go along with the sub-title that
Dr. Wiersbe uses in this section of his commentary. In this section of Scripture it shows how God
cares for Israel in a number
of ways which refers back to some of the things that God did for Israel in the
past.
The first
thing that Moses writes about is how God cared for Israel when there were only
seventy of them and He led them into the land of Egypt because there was no
food for them in Cannon, and how God multiplied them two as much as over two
million people during the next four-hundred years. Moses goes on to tell how God did many
miracles against the so called gods of Egypt
in order to destroy the nation of Egypt
and allow the children of Israel
to leave Israel
with much booty. The last thing that
Moses mentions in this section is how God disciplined part of Korah’s family
along with Dathan and Abiram when they tested the Lord concerning the
priesthood and then God opened up the earth and swallowed them, two hundred and
fifty in all.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: It is important to know that not only was God
in control of the nation of Israel especially when it came to the priesthood
and things pertaining to the worship that Israel made to the Lord, but God is
also in control of His church and will discipline the church too if people do
not follow the things that they are suppose to follow in the church. The church is also to discipline the church
and this is something that is lacking today.
There are a number of references in the NT which speak of the discipline
of the church in it including Acts five and 1 Cor. 3:9-23; Heb. 13:17; and 3
John 9-12.
I know that
God is not mocked and therefore I need to follow the commands of the Lord and
confess any sin quickly whenever I sin in order to not be disciplined by the
Lord. I must also say that I am to
follow the commands of the Lord because of the love that I have for Him and not
just because I fear judgment for all of my judgment was taken out on Jesus
Christ on the cross and that is why I can come boldly to the throne of
grace: “Let us therefore come boldly
unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in
time of need.”
My Steps of Faith for
Today:
- Confess any sins quickly to the Lord.
- Learn contentment.
- Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
- To be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man.
- To live a life in order that Christ will feel at home within me.
Memory verses for the week: Ephesians
1:6-10
- to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.
- In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
- which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight
- He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him
- with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in heavens and things on the earth. In Him
