God Is Holy-Fear Him (Deu. 4:3-4)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  God is holy—fear Him

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Deuteronomy 4:3-4

Message of the verses:    "Your eyes have seen what the LORD has done in the case of Baal-peor, for all the men who followed Baal-peor, the LORD your God has destroyed them from among you.  4  "But you who held fast to the LORD your God are alive today, every one of you.”

Israel had a problem since they lived in Egypt and that problem was the worship of idols.  They learned to worship these idols while in Egypt and some of the people who came out of Egypt with Israel were not from Israel and they pretty much were the ones who were causing a lot of trouble for Israel.  That is not to say that latter on Israel will not cause the trouble on its own.  Israel would be taken out of their land in 586 BC and be punished by the Lord for their worship of idols and this would pretty much cure them of the worship of idols.  However they would be taken out of their land again in 70AD because of their rejection of their Messiah, Jesus Christ and would spend the next 1878 years outside of the Promised Land, becoming a nation again in 1948.  The sad part of all of this is that Israel today is a very worldly nation, something Ezekiel said would happen to them.

Proverbs 1:7 says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and one of the problems of Israel is that they did not fear the Lord; therefore they began to worship idols showing that they did not fear the Lord.  “To fear the Lord means to respect who He is, what He is, and what He says, and by our submission and obedience show Him that we love Him and want to please Him.  He is the creator and we’re the creatures; He’s the Father and we’re the children; He’s the Master and we’re the servants.  When we knowingly and willfully defy His authority, we tempt Him to discipline us, and our arrogance only leads to pain and tragic loss.  It just isn’t worth it.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Part of the worship of idols in Israel’s day had to do with sexual things and there were many male and female prostitutes in the temple of these idols and this is probably one of the things that were so tempting to them.  It is still a temptation to me and to a lot of others in my day and I need the grace and forgiveness of God along with His strength to overcome temptations.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
  2. Continue to learn contentment.
  3. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Ephesians 1:1-2

  1. Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints who are at Ephesus and who are faithful in Jesus Christ:
  2. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
