Rejecting God's Authority (Deu. 8:19-20)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  Rejecting God’s authority

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Deuteronomy 8:19-20

Message of the verses:  “19  "It shall come about if you ever forget the LORD your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you today that you will surely perish.  20  "Like the nations that the LORD makes to perish before you, so you shall perish; because you would not listen to the voice of the LORD your God.”

Moses ends his speech with the children of Israel by warning them what the Lord would do if Israel began to worship idols, and what He would do is exactly what He was about to do through Israel to the other nations who worshiped idols.  However the one thing different is that Israel would still remain as a nation even though God would take them out of the Promised Land for a time.

“Idolatry begins in the heart when gratitude to the Giver is replaced by greediness for the gifts.  Prosperity—ingratitude—idolatry:  three steps towards ruin.”  (Quoted for Dr. Wiersbe’s book on Deuteronomy, “Be Equipped”)

Spiritual meaning for my life today:

The Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team has done some very amazing things as far as setting records for most wins, becoming Central division champs very early in the season, and now just last night have won the best record in the league this year clinching home field advantage throughout al of the time they are in the playoff’s this year and yet they have not celebrated these things a whole lot because their goal is to win an NBA championship this year and so they are keeping their eye on the goal.  With this said I should have the same mind set in my walk with the Lord.  There will be ups and downs as I walk with the Lord and their will be wonderful answers to prayers, such as Kim being with child, or perhaps someday having our retirement funds returned to us, yet the goal is to live a life pleasing to the Lord and finish the course that He has laid out for me to travel on making sure that I finish strong so one day I can hear my Lord say to me “Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.”  Paul spoke of this in 2 Timothy 2:7  “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; 8.  in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.”

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. To be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man.
  2. To give myself to the Lord for worship and service today.
  3. To continue to learn contentment.
  4. To fight the good fight and to finish strong.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Ephesians 1:5-9

  1. He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,
  2. to the praise and glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.
  3. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
  4. which He lavished on us.  In all wisdom and insight
  5. He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him
