The Law of God PT-5 (Deu. 5:19-21)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  The Law of God Part 5

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Deuteronomy 5:19-21

Message of the verses:  “19  ‘You shall not steal. 20  ‘You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 21  ‘You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, and you shall not desire your neighbor’s house, his field or his male servant or his female servant, his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

I will be looking at the last three of the Ten Commandments in this SD, and I might say that in my opinion the tenth commandment is the most difficult commandment to keep especially if one has not learned contentment.

The eight commandment simply says “you shall not steal,” but this means that we are not to steal anything from anyone, things like stealing time at work, or even taking pens or things like that, and we are not to steal a persons identity, to slander against a person is doing that.

The next commandment is all about lying, and this does not just mean in a court of law, but lying is wrong.  Lying can mean that you deceive a person with the intent of not telling them the truth.

The final commandment speaks of coveting something that another person has, and it begins with a neighbor’s wife, in other words is a person lusts after another’s wife like David did then one breaks this commandment.  If a person lusts after a persons vineyard like Ahab did then this is wrong.  Now in both of these cases this act of lusting or coveting after these things brought about the breaking of other commandments including murder and that is what happens when a person breaks one commandment it will probably lead to breaking another commandment for as James puts it these commandments are like a chain.

Dr. Wiersbe has some things to say in conclusion to his commentary that I wish to quote, “The old nature knows no law, bu the new nature needs no law.

“Because we’ve been born again into God’s family and have received God’s divine nature within, we are enabled by the Spirit to obey God’s law and live godly lives.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I did not wish to take so long going over these commandments especially since I went over each of them while studying the book of Exodus, but you cannot study too much about such things and it was time worth investing.  It seems that the Lord has been talking to me about the indwelling and filling of the Holy Spirit, for just as D. L. Moody was seeking this in his life, a life that I have been reading about.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Learn to live a contented life.
  2. Trust the Holy Spirit to fill me as He desires to do so.
  3. Give my self to the Lord for worship and service.
  4. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Ephesians 1:1-4

1.        Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are at Ephesus and who are faithful in Christ Jesus:

2.        Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3.        Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

4.        just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him.  In love
