The Abominations of Satan (Deu. 18:9-13)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                              Focus:  The abominations of Satan

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Deuteronomy 18:9-13

Message of the verses:  “9 ¶  "When you enter the land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations. 10  "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11  or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. 12  "For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD; and because of these detestable things the LORD your God will drive them out before you. 13  "You shall be blameless before the LORD your God.”

I must say that I was a bit confused as I began this SD because Warren Wiersbe jumped into Deut. chapter eighteen and began a new sub-section entitled “Honoring God’s Word” which covers verses 9-22 of Deut. 18.  I had to use yesterdays SD to cover the remaining verses in chapter thirteen.

This section today covers a number of satanic things that the people who lived in the land of Canaan practiced which Moses warned the children of Israel not to get involved in.  Killing of their children, divination, witchcraft, one who interprets omens, or one who is a sorcerer, one who cast a spell, one who is a medium, or one who is a spiritist, and last one who calls up the dead.  All of these thing are even going on in our country at this time and people get involved in these practices because they think that they can find the truth in them and they think that the Bible is a worthless book, but in fact the Bible is the Truth and those who are involved in the occult will one day find that the Bible is the Truth either after death or as one of the younger married ladies in our church who was involved in the occult has found the Jesus is truly the Way, the Truth and the Life, praise the Lord for her salvation.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I have known that the occult is something that is real since shortly after I became a believer and I know that at times my life is affected by the flesh which is the beachhead to which Satan attacks a believer.  Our Bible Study group has just finished a series of lessons on “The Invisible War,” which was informative to all who attended.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Continue to learn more about the filling of the Spirit, which is the command of all believers.
  2. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
  3. Continue to learn contentment.
