God Speaks-Hear Him (Deu. 4:1-2)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  God speaks—hear Him

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Deuteronomy 4:1-2

      Message of the verses:  “1 ¶ “Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I am teaching you to perform, so that you may live and go in and take possession of the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you.  2  "You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.”

      As Moses was preparing the children of Israel to go into and take possession of the Promised Land he wanted them to know the importance of knowing God’s Word and the importance of hearing Him and obeying Him and that is what this small section of Deuteronomy is all about.  He also wanted them to know that His Word should never be added to or taken away from it.  “Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to nor take away from it.”  (Deu. 12:32)  “Do not add to His words Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.”  (Pr. 30:6)  “Brethren, I speak in terms of human relations: even though it is only a man’s covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions to it.”  (Gal. 3:15)  “18 I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book;

19  and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.”  (Rev. 22:18-19)  God watches over His Word, “Then the LORD said to me, "You have seen well, for I am watching over My word to perform it.”  (Jer. 1:12)  God will judge those who tamper with His Word.  As one reads Mark 7:1-13 they will be able to see that the Pharisees of Jesus’ day would take away from the truth of God’s Word and replace it with their traditions.

      Spiritual meaning for my life today:  “I wish to copy a portion from Warren Wiersbe’s commentary on Deuteronomy for this section of my SD.  “Believers today must find their life and victory in God’s Word.  Unless we know what God commands, we can’t obey Him; bit if we know His commandments, believe them, and obey them, then His power goes to work in our lives.”

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Know what God’s Word has to say and by His grace I want to obey it.
  2. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service today.
  3. Learn Contentment.
  4. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Ephesians 1:1-2

 1 ¶  Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are at Ephesus and who are faithful in Christ Jesus:

2  Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
