SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  Commandment

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Deuteronomy 6:5

Message of the verse:  “5 “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”

Love is probably the most misused word in the English vocabulary for I can say that I love my wife, and then I can also say that I love those delicious baked beans.  Love is not a noun, but is a verb for love always demands action, “God so loved…..that He gave.”

How shall a person love the Lord?  Well this verse says with all of your heart, soul, and might.  What does that mean?  Psalm 103:1 give a very good description of what this means, “Bless the LORD, O my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name.”  The underlined portion of this verse is the answer.

Warren Wiersbe writes, “To love God and worship and serve Him is the highest privilege we can have, so when the Lord commands us to love, He is inviting us to that which is the best.”

How do we love the Lord?  Well Jesus said to His disciples just before He was about to go to the cross; “If you love Me keep my commandments.”  A little story may help here:  Most parents do not have to have a law to tell them not to hurt their children while they are raising them, but they take care of their children to their best ability because they love them.  The same is true with taking care of one’s self; we do it because we love ourselves.  Jesus said that we should love our neighbor’s as we love ourselves.  We keep the commandments that the Lord has given us because we love Him and we know that by keeping them it will show our love to the Lord, and it will also be best for us to do this, for His commandments are not burdensome.  “1Jo 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  “Warren Wiersbe writes, “If the inner person is completely yielded to the Lord and open to His Word as ministered by His Spirit, then the feelings will follow.  But even if they don’t, we must still relate to other people as the Lord relates to us.”  Feelings are important, but obedience is more important.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Love the Lord by keeping His commandments.
  2. Continue to learn contentment.
  3. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.

Memory verses for the week:                                              Ephesians 1:1-6

1.        Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are at Ephesus and who are faithful in Christ Jesus.

2.        Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3.        Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

4.        just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we could be holy and blameless before Him.  In love

5.        He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,

6.        to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.
