SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                              Focus: Obey because of God’s character

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Deut. 10:14-22

Message of the verses:  “14  "Behold, to the LORD your God belong heaven and the highest heavens, the earth and all that is in it. 15  "Yet on your fathers did the LORD set His affection to love them, and He chose their descendants after them, even you above all peoples, as it is this day. 16  "So circumcise your heart, and stiffen your neck no longer. 17  "For the LORD your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God who does not show partiality nor take a bribe. 18  "He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the alien by giving him food and clothing. 19  "So show your love for the alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt. 20  "You shall fear the LORD your God; you shall serve Him and cling to Him, and you shall swear by His name. 21  "He is your praise and He is your God, who has done these great and awesome things for you which your eyes have seen. 22  "Your fathers went down to Egypt seventy persons in all, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars of heaven.”

Warren Wiersbe writes:  “A balanced fear of the Lord and love for the Lord is the result of a growing understanding of the attributes of God, and these attributes are described in the Scriptures.”  He goes on to write about some of these attributes that are spoken of in this section of Deuteronomy ten.

Verse fourteen speaks of the Lord as Creator, and not only is He the Creator of all that is seen, but He is the One who keeps all of it going in the way that He wants it to go.

Verses fifteen and sixteen speak of the Love that God has, and the Scripture makes it plain that God is love.  God is not only a loving God, but God is love and God demonstrated His love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.  Agape love can be described as follows, Giving something to a person who is in great need of that something but has no way of obtaining it for himself.  God did that exact thing when He gave salvation to those who have trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior.  A person is born into sin and has know way of obtaining the very thing that he needs so that He is right with God, but God provided this through His Son.

Verse seventeen shows that God does not show partiality and will not take a bribe, for He is God and no one can bribe Him in order to get their own way.

Verse eighteen speaks of God takes care of orphans and widows and shows His love for them and verse nineteen instructs Israel to take care of aliens whenever they get into the Promised Land because they too were aliens in Egypt. Verse twenty speaks of fearing the Lord and twenty-one speaks of praising the Lord for all of the wonderful things that He has done for Israel and finally verse twenty-two tells of how the Lord has taken care of Israel as they at one time were only seventy people who went down to Egypt and God made a great nation out of them with many people.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I will have to admit that there have been thing that have happened to me while in this body on this earth that I wish would have never happened to me, and yet I have to continue to trust in the Lord for He is not unjust nor can He do anything that is unjust.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Keep a short list with the Lord.
  2. Trust the Lord to see us through the trying days ahead.
  3. Trust the Lord to guide my path.
  4. Trust the Lord to continue to teach me contentment.
