SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                              Focus: Moses’ experience at Kadesh

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Deuteronomy 4:21-24

Message of the verses:  “21  "Now the LORD was angry with me on your account, and swore that I would not cross the Jordan, and that I would not enter the good land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.  22  "For I will die in this land, I shall not cross the Jordan, but you shall cross and take possession of this good land.  23  "So watch yourselves, that you do not forget the covenant of the LORD your God which He made with you, and make for yourselves a graven image in the form of anything against which the LORD your God has commanded you.  24  "For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.”

“8  "I am the LORD, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another, Nor My praise to graven images.”  This verse can probably describe what happened to Moses at Kadesh when God told him to speak to the rock in order to receive water out of it for the children of Israel.  Moses’ speech at that time was as if he was the one who was getting the water out of the rock and not the power of the Lord and so the Lord told Moses at that time that he would not be the one who leads the children of Israel into the Promised Land.

Moses uses this as an example to the children of Israel and tells them to not forget the covenant of the Lord that He made with them and in verse twenty-four Moses tells them that the Lord is a consuming fire and a jealous God.  God wants the best for His children and when His children sin and He has to discipline them is saddens Him, but God has to do what is best for His children.  The writer of the book of Hebrews picks up on this when he says in verse 29 “for our God is a consuming fire.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I realize that the Lord can discipline me for sinful habits and I am sure that He has done so in the past, but God’s discipline is something done in love to move me in the right direction, that is to conform me to the image of His Son, Jesus Christ.  My prayer is that I will understand when it is that the Lord is disciplining me and repent and learn so that I will keep going on to be conformed to the image of His Son.

My Steps of Faith:

  1. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
  2. Continue to learn contentment.
  3. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service today.
  4. Be ready always to confess any sin that I may commit in order to stay in fellowship with the Lord.

Memory verses for the week:                                              Ephesians 1:1-2

1.        Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are at Ephesus and who are faithful in Christ Jesus:

2.        Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
