Purging the Land (Deu 12:1-3)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  Purging the land

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Deut. 12:1-3

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  "These are the statutes and the judgments which you shall carefully observe in the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you to possess as long as you live on the earth. 2  "You shall utterly destroy all the places where the nations whom you shall dispossess serve their gods, on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree. 3  "You shall tear down their altars and smash their sacred pillars and burn their Asherim with fire, and you shall cut down the engraved images of their gods and obliterate their name from that place.”

This is the first SD from the new chapter in Warren Wiersbe’s book “Be Equipped,” which is a commentary on Deuteronomy.

Moses speaks to the people about getting rid of the false religious things that pollute the land in which the children of Israel were going to go in and conquer.   This is a statement that they will indeed conquer this land, and it is also a commandment that they should destroy these false religious things so that they would not be tempted to follow after them.

“And do not give the devil an opportunity” is from Ephesians 4:27 and this is what the children of Israel eventually did as they did not get rid of all those religious symbols and things and were thus tempted and fell to that temptation and were eventually removed from the land by the Lord.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I know that there are things that I also need to get rid of in order to not be tempted by the devil and I must do that!

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Follow the instructions that Moses gave to the children of Israel.
  2. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
  3. Continue to pray for Kim.
  4. Continue to learn contentment.
