God Disciplines Us (Deu. 8:5)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  God disciplines us

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Deuteronomy 8:5

Message of the verses:  “5 “Thus you are to know in your heart that the LORD your God was disciplining you just as a man disciplines his son.”

This is the forth ministry that God performed for Israel and that He performs for us as believers today.

I like the last portion of this verse where Moses tells the children of Israel that God disciplined the first generation like a father disciplines his son, and so in lies the definition of Spiritual discipline for one of God’s children.  It is not punishment like a judge does when He sentences a criminal to prison for doing something wrong, but a loving response in order to cause the child of His to respond in the correct way and grow in his relationship with the Lord.

Dr. Wiersbe points out that the classic portion of Scripture on the discipline of a believer is found in Hebrews 12:1-15.

I know that the Bible teaches that trials are used to help us grow and lately I have had a lot of trials come my way along with my wife having these same trials too.

My prayer is that they will help us both mature and grow closer to the Lord!

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. I want to pray that the Holy Spirit will have control of my life each day.
  2. I have given myself to the Lord for worship and service today.
  3. I want to trust the Lord to see me through showing of my sign tomorrow because I have trouble with IBS at times like these.
  4. I still want to learn contentment, more contentment.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Ephesians 1:5-8

  1.  He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,
  2. to the praise and glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.
  3. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
  4. which He lavished on us.  In all wisdom and insight
