SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                              Focus:  One altar for sacrifices

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Deuteronomy 12:6-7, 12-14

Message of the verses:  “6  "There you shall bring your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the contribution of your hand, your votive offerings, your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock. 7  "There also you and your households shall eat before the LORD your God, and rejoice in all your undertakings in which the LORD your God has blessed you.  12  "And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God, you and your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levite who is within your gates, since he has no portion or inheritance with you. 13  "Be careful that you do not offer your burnt offerings in every cultic place you see, 14  but in the place which the LORD chooses in one of your tribes, there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I command you.”

Unlike the heathen nations God has a special place for the children of Israel to worship Him with there tithes and offerings.  The children of Israel could kill and eat meat whenever they wanted to, but when they did this at any other place other than the tabernacle it was not an offering or a sacrifice, just food.  There were different kinds of sacrifices, which are described in the book of Leviticus, and some of these offerings and sacrifices were to be shared with the Levites.  The priests were the only ones who could offer any sacrifices that were brought into the tabernacle and latter on in the temple, and it was the Levites job to help with the tabernacle.

Warren Wiersbe says that worship was not only to draw God children closer to Him, but it was to draw His children closer to each other.  This is a good statement to remember.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Worshiping the Lord is something that I am to do in everything that I do, but corporate worship is to draw me closer to the ones whom I am worshiping with.
