SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  Enjoying God’s blessing

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Deut. 8:6-9

Message of the verses: “6  "Therefore, you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him. 7  "For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills; 8  a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey; 9  a land where you will eat food without scarcity, in which you will not lack anything; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper.”

Moses is telling this second generation that came out of Egypt that they are to keep the commandments of the Lord and that they are to walk in the ways of the Lord and that they are to fear the Lord.  As I looked up the Hebrew translation for the word fear I find that it means to have reverence for, to stand in awe, and in the NASB the work is sometimes translated as “awesome.”

Moses goes on in verses seven through nine to tell of some of the wonderful things that were in the Promised Land that the children of Israel would find, including water, different kinds of foods, and also copper ore would be found there.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  As I have been studying from the OT for the last couple of years, especially in the books of Exodus through this eighth chapter of Deuteronomy I have found that there are things that the children of Israel had gone through that are similar to my walk as a child of God.  Coming out of Egypt was a picture of my salvation from sin and going into the Promised Land is a picture of walking in obedience to the Lord and claiming my inheritance that the Lord has already given to me.  Now I have also been studying the book of Ephesians, and Dr. Wiersbe calls his commentary on Ephesians “Be Rich” because the first three chapters of Ephesians speak of the believers riches that they have in Christ.  The riches that Moses speaks of in verses seven through nine are a picture of the riches that I as a believer in Christ have that are described in Ephesians 1-3.  The key in both Deuteronomy and Ephesians is that I as a believer have to keep the commandments of the Lord and fear Him and also claim my inheritance that I have in Jesus Christ by faith.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Fear the Lord and keep His commandments.
  2. Trust the Lord to guide my path each day.
  3. Continue to learn contentment.
  4. To be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Ephesians 1:5-9

  1. He predestinated us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,
  2. to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.
  3. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
  4. which He lavished on us.  In all wisdom and insight
  5. He made know to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him
