My Worship Time Focus: Aaron’s sincerity
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Leviticus 10:12-20
Message of the verses: “12 ¶
Then Moses spoke to Aaron, and to his surviving sons, Eleazar and
Ithamar, "Take the grain offering that is left over from the LORD’S
offerings by fire and eat it unleavened beside the altar, for it is most
holy. 13
"You shall eat it, moreover, in a holy place, because it is your
due and your sons’ due out of the LORD’S offerings by fire; for thus I have
been commanded. 14 "The breast of the wave offering,
however, and the thigh of the offering you may eat in a clean place, you and
your sons and your daughters with you; for they have been given as your due and
your sons’ due out of the sacrifices of the peace offerings of the sons of
Israel. 15 "The thigh offered by lifting up and the
breast offered by waving they shall bring along with the offerings by fire of
the portions of fat, to present as a wave offering before the LORD; so it shall
be a thing perpetually due you and your sons with you, just as the LORD has
commanded." 16 But Moses searched
carefully for the goat of the sin offering, and behold, it had been burned up!
So he was angry with Aaron’s surviving sons Eleazar and Ithamar, saying, 17
“Why did you not eat the sin offering at the holy place? For it is most holy,
and He gave it to you to bear away the guilt of the congregation, to make
atonement for them before the LORD. 18
“Behold, since its blood had not been brought inside, into the sanctuary, you
should certainly have eaten it in the sanctuary, just as I
commanded." 19 But Aaron spoke to Moses, "Behold, this
very day they presented their sin offering and their burnt offering before the
LORD. When things like these happened to me, if I had eaten a sin offering
today, would it have been good in the sight of the LORD?" 20 When Moses heard that, it seemed good in
his sight.”
I
have always been hard on Moses for what he tells Aaron and his sons to do in
this portion of Scripture and have felt sorry for Aaron on his remaining sons
because they could not have a time to morn the losses that they had that
day. Dr. Wiersbe points out that Moses
feared that the Lord would do more things if Aaron and his son’s did not
complete the ceremony in the way that the Law described them to do. Aaron did not want to be a hypocrite in doing
something that his heart would not want him to do because of the loss of his
two sons and God understood this just as Moses did and therefore he did not
have to be blamed for not eating the portion of the sin offering that he was
required to do. There are a number of
passages that support this in Scripture:
1 Samuel 15:22-23; 16:7; Psalm 51:16-17; Micah 6:6-8. “22
Samuel said, "Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and
sacrifices As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat
of rams.
23 "For rebellion is as the sin of
divination, And insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected
the word of the LORD, He has also rejected you from being king.’”
Spiritual meaning for my life today: I think that I can understand Aaron in this
situation and concur with why he had done what he did. I believe that God understands the hearts and
motives of His children and those are more important to Him that obeying the
Law at times like these. Jesus Christ
understands our weaknesses as the writer to the Hebrews says, because He was
human and was tempted like I am yet without sin.
My Steps of Faith for Today:
- Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
- Give myself to the Lord for service and worship today.
- Put on my spiritual armor today.
- Trust the Lord will give me the grace needed for this day.
- Trust that the Lord will teach me and that I will learn contentment.

4.
You shall not make for yourself and idol, or any
likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water

5.
You shall now worship them or serve them; for I,
the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the
children on the third and forth generations of those who hate me,
6.
but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to
those who love me and keep my commandments.
7.
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God
in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.
