The Eating of Animals Found Dead (Lev. 17:15-16)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                              Focus:  The eating of animals found dead

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Lev. 17:15-16

Message of the verses:  “15  ‘When any person eats an animal which dies or is torn by beasts, whether he is a native or an alien, he shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and remain unclean until evening; then he will become clean.  16  ‘But if he does not wash them or bathe his body, then he shall bear his guilt.’”

I am not too sure that any of the children of Israel would want to eat any meat from an animal that they just happened upon that was dead, for the blood would not have been drained out of it as it should have been, and of course if the animal was dead for a while then it would not have been safe to eat, but in the event that they would have done this they would have to wash their clothes and themselves and stay away from the camp until evening before they were clean again.

Dr. Wiersbe, in his commentary on these verses reminds the reader of the importance of the blood of Jesus Christ and the importance of it.  He says, “The blood is precious, (1 Peter 1:19).  Among other things, through His blood, we are justified, (Rom. 5:9), redeemed (Eph. 1:7), washed (Rev. 1:5), sanctified (Heb. 13:12), brought near (Eph. 2:13), and cleansed (1John 1:7).  The church was purchased by the blood of Christ and therefore is very precious to God (Acts 20:28).

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  As I look over the list of verses that speak of the blood of Christ and what His blood did for me it reminds me of what sad shape that I was born into being born into sin as a product of Adams race.  I also look at all of what it was that had to be done for me, at no cost to me, but at a great cost to God, before I could be a child of God.  Yes the precious blood of Jesus Christ is so very precious to me and I will be thankful all of the days of my life here on earth and even into eternity because of the precious blood of Jesus Christ paid it all for me.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Remember what the precious blood of Jesus Christ did for me.  It justified me, it redeemed me, it washed me, it sanctified me, it brought me near to God, and it cleansed me.

Memory verses for the week:                                              Exodus 20:12-14

12.      Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God give you.

13.      You shall not murder.

14.      You shall not commit adultery.
