The High Priest Offers the Burnt Offerings (Lev. 16:3, 5, & 24)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                    Focus:  the high priest offers the brunt offerings

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Leviticus 16:3, 5, 24

Message of the verses:  “3  "Aaron shall enter the holy place with this: with a bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering.

5 ¶  "He shall take from the congregation of the sons of Israel two male goats for a sin offering and one ram for a burnt offering.  24  "He shall bathe his body with water in a holy place and put on his clothes, and come forth and offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people and make atonement for himself and for the people.”

The high priest would offer a burnt offering for himself and also one for the people of Israel, and according to Leviticus 4:8-10 he would burn the fat of the sin offering.  The sin offering would be burned outside of the camp, which symbolizes the fact that Jesus Christ was crucified outside the city walls of Jerusalem.  The burnt offering symbolizes dedication to the Lord and it goes along with the sin offering.  Psalm 130:4 speaks of forgiveness and the fear of the Lord as going together, “But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared.”  “Forgiveness and the fear of the Lord go together, for the privilege of forgiveness carries with it the obligation of commitment and obedience.  Jesus offered Himself up to the Father in total obedience and we cannot do less than follow His example.”

The high priest supervised the carrying out of the sin offering outside the camp to be burned as seen in Lev. 4:1-2.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The section of Dr. Wiersbe’s book was a bit difficult for me to understand as is probably seen by the section above.  Forgiveness and the fear of the Lord do seem to go together, which is something that I have some trouble doing from time to time and certainly need to work on by the grace of God and by the power of His Holy Spirit.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
  2. Trust the Lord to teach me and for me to learn contentment in the trials of life.
  3. Trust the Lord with the outcome of our presidential election knowing that if the type of the antichrist wins this election that it probably means that God has given our country to the evil that is within it.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Exodus 20:8-13

  1. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
  2. Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
  3. but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God, in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you.
  4. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
  5. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you.
  6. You shall not murder.
