SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time Focus: The holy bread
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Lev. 24:5-9
Message of the verses: “5
"Then you shall take fine flour and bake twelve cakes with it;
two-tenths of an ephah shall be in each cake.
6 "You shall set them in two
rows, six to a row, on the pure gold table before the LORD. 7
"You shall put pure frankincense on each row that it may be a
memorial portion for the bread, even an offering by fire to the LORD. 8
"Every sabbath day he shall set it in order before the LORD
continually; it is an everlasting covenant for the sons of Israel . 9
"It shall be for Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a
holy place; for it is most holy to him from the LORD’S offerings by fire, his
portion forever.’”
The people
of Israel
were to bring the fine flower in order for the shewbread to be made just as
they brought the oil for the lamps. The
bread represented each of the tribes of Israel before the presence of the
Lord inside the tabernacle. There was
also frankincense beside each of the loaves of bread and this would be burned
as a sacrifice to the Lord on the Sabbath day along with a portion of one of
the loaves of bread. The rest of the
bread would be eaten by the priests. The
people of Israel
were represented in the tabernacle by these loaves and also by the jewels that
were on the high priests vest.
What does
the shewbread symbolize? Dr. Wiersbe
writes that this bread did not represent the fact that Jesus was the bread of
life because that referred to manna. He
goes on to say that it does seem a little bit odd to have bread in the
tabernacle and does say that it may be tied into the “Lord’s Prayer” when Jesus
asks God to give us this day our daily bread.
As believers we need both physical and spiritual bread.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: I am thankful that I am represented before
the God of heaven by my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I am thankful that He does give me both
spiritual and physical food each day.
My Steps of Faith for
Today:
- Make sure that I read God’s Word each day in order to get my spiritual food each day from the Lord.
Memory verses for the week: Romans
6:1-4
- What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?
- May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?
- Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?
- Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we to might walk in newness of life.
