SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                 Focus: Standards

Bible Reading & Meditation                                  Reference:  Lev. 18:6-23

Message of the verses:  “There are too many verses in this section to copy and paste them here so I will go on with the commentary of these verses.

In these eighteen verses the Lord gives these laws that deal with who a person can and cannot have a relation with that is who a person can marry and who they cannot.  When you read, “uncover their nakedness,” the Bible is speaking of having sexual intercourse with them.  God makes it clear that in order to have sexual intercourse that two people are to be married, but then He goes on to say who a person was allowed to marry.  Now if it is legal to have sexual intercourse with a person like when a brother dies and his brother marries his brother’s widow that is okay, in fact that is what is suppose to happen.  John the Baptist was all over Herod for marring his brother Philips wife because Philip was still alive when he married her thus he was committing adultery with her, and this just wasn’t in his mind as Jesus was speaking of in the Sermon on the Mount.

This section also speaks of being married to a brother or sister or having sex with an animal, and it also deals with homosexuality.  None of these were legal under the laws of God, and the penalties will be spelled out in chapter twenty of Leviticus, which I hope to cover latter on.

Now I want to write on what my view is about something that I think goes along with this chapter, and that is how procreation got started when God created Adam and Eve.  The reason why this is important is because there has to be an answer as to where the sons of Adam and Eve got their wives in order to have children of their own.  I have read and heard from people who have studied about this and have come to the conclusion that it took a long time for the gene pool in humans to be so affected by sin that there would have been no problem for Adam and Eve’s sons to marry their sisters after all Abraham was married to his half sister which would not have been legal under the laws seen in this section.  I believe that later on God will say that it is not right to marry of cousin and I believe that is because the offspring would not be mentally right because of the worsening of the gene pool.  Most civilized nations have laws that prohibit marriage between close realities.  It must be remembered that God gives laws to protect His children from the harm that will come by breaking them.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I want to repeat what I wrote in the first section of this SD, and that is that God has given His Laws to me in order to protect me from the consequences of keeping them and I must remember that at all costs.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. As a believer in Jesus Christ I have the Holy Spirit living within me as a down payment or earnest that I will one day be with Jesus Christ for all eternity.  The Holy Spirit gives me the desire and ability to keep the laws and commands of God because of the great love that He has instilled in my heart for the Lord Jesus Christ.  Paul writes that he was no longer the Law, but teaches that he keeps the Law because he loves the Lord and I need to be reminded of this.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Exodus 20:12-14

12.    Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you.

13.  You shall not murder.

14.  You shall not commit adultery.
