SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                    Focus:  Mother and child

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Leviticus 12:1-5

Message of the verses:  “1.  Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2  "Speak to the sons of Israel, saying: ‘When a woman gives birth and bears a male child, then she shall be unclean for seven days, as in the days of her menstruation she shall be unclean.  3  ‘On the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.  4  ‘Then she shall remain in the blood of her purification for thirty-three days; she shall not touch any consecrated thing, nor enter the sanctuary until the days of her purification are completed.  5  ‘But if she bears a female child, then she shall be unclean for two weeks, as in her menstruation; and she shall remain in the blood of her purification for sixty-six days.”

As I have read through this section in my times of reading through the Bible there were some questions that came up that were never answered and I am not sure that they will be answered today.  This section speaks of what happens to babies and moms and dads after a baby is born into this world.  The mother is ceremonially unclean for forty days if she gives birth to a girl boy and eighty days if she gives birth to a girl.  As far as verse three and circumcision that will be discussed tomorrow.  Why is a mother ceremonially unclean after the birth of a child and why twice as long when a girl is born as when a boy is born?  There are a number of answers to these questions and some of the answers have to do with health issues and some could be spiritual issues.  One thing for sure there would be no sexual activities for the time when the mother was ceremonially unclean and therefore she would not be getting pregnant while she spends wonderful time being alone with her new baby.  She would not be around other people who may have some sort of disease that they could pass on to her or her new baby. I did not see any good reason as to why the time was doubled for a girl, but one thing for sure and that is God makes no mistakes and has a reason for the things that He does and has His children do.

This section in no way shows that sex is dirty and wrong or that having a baby is dirty and wrong for God created both and after creating all of this He said that it was very good.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  People in this culture and even Jewish people today have to have great self control in order to stay away from sexual activity during this time after a baby is born.  Sometimes I have trouble with having self control.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Put on my spiritual armor.
  2. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
  3. Trust the Lord to answer my prayers in the way that is in His will.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Exodus 20:7-10

  1. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.
  2. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
  3. Six days you shall labor and do all  your work,
  4. but the seventh day is a Sabbath of the Lord your God, in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or daughter, or your male or female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you.
