SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time Focus: The high priest offers his own offering
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference:
Leviticus 16:6, 11-14
Message of the verses: “6 And
Aaron shall offer his bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and
make an atonement for himself, and for his house.
“11 And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin
offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and
for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for
himself: 12 And he shall take a censer full of burning
coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet
incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail: 13 And
he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the
incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die
not: 14
And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his
finger upon the mercy seat eastward; and before the mercy seat shall he
sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times.”
In
these five verses it can be seen what the high priest did as far as the
offering of the sacrifice and also the usage of the incense on the Day of
Atonement. He offered the sacrifice for
himself and family because they were sinners.
He then took some coals from the altar which was before the Lord, along
with some special incense, along with some of the blood from the sacrifice and
went into the Holy of Holies. The first
thing he did while in there was to put the special incense on the coals in
order to make a kind of cloud in the Holy of Holies symbolizing the glory of
God, and then he sprinkled some of the blood on the Mercy Seat, after that
sprinkled seven times the blood before
the Mercy Seat.
Dr.
Wiersbe points out that bringing glory to God was the first thing that Christ
prayed for in His high priestly prayer, (JN. 17:1). Jesus Christ did not need to offer a sin
offering for Himself as these High Priests did because He is sinless. Dr. Wiersbe then points out that the ultimate
goal of God’s great plan of salvation is not the good of people but the glory
of God (Eph. 1:6, 12, 14).
Spiritual meaning for my life today: Since the ultimate goal of God’s great plan
of salvation is no the good of people but the glory of God then because God has
given this wonderful free gift of salvation to me then I should bring glory to
God as my first priority. The chief end
of man is to bring glory to God.
My Steps of Faith for Today:
- Bring glory to God.
Memory verses for the week: Exodus 20:8-13
- Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
- Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
- but the seventh day is a Sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you.
- For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
- Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you.
- You shall not murder.
