The Eating of Blood (Lev. 17:10-14)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  The eating of blood

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Lev. 17:10-14

Message of the verses:  “10 ¶  ‘And any man from the house of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, who eats any blood, I will set My face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people.  11  ‘For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.’  12  "Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, ‘No person among you may eat blood, nor may any alien who sojourns among you eat blood.’  13  "So when any man from the sons of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, in hunting catches a beast or a bird which may be eaten, he shall pour out its blood and cover it with earth.  14  "For as for the life of all flesh, its blood is identified with its life. Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, ‘You are not to eat the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood; whoever eats it shall be cut off.’”

There is no doubt of what God is saying in these verses, no one is to every eat any blood, for the life of all flesh is its blood, and God has given the blood to the children of Israel on the altar to make atonement for their souls, because it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.

I want to think back on what is called “The Lord’s Supper,” and compare it to this section.  Jesus told His disciples that He was making a new covenant with them and that the bread that they were about to eat represented His body, and the wine that they were about to drink represented His blood, and told them that whenever they would later partake of the “Lord’s Supper” that they would remember this new covenant, remember Christ’s death and look forward to His coming again to receive them into the Kingdom of Heaven.

The blood of a person or an animal was costly in God’s sight and the blood of Jesus Christ is so very precious in my sight because it, along with the body of Jesus Christ made atonement for my sins, it satisfied the demand that God had for my salvation and when He looked at it, it propitiated or satisfied a Holy God, and now when He looks at me He sees the righteousness of Jesus Christ in me and therefore recognizes me as His child.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I kind of got into the spiritual meaning for my life today and every other day in the section above.

I must say that this new era of praise and worship songs I have not heard a lot of them speaking of the blood of Jesus Christ, and I think that by not having this theme in some of there songs that they are leaving something out that should not be left out, for without the shedding of blood there can be no remission of sin.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Praise the Lord for the blood of Jesus Christ and the fact that it cleansed me from sin and now I am a child of God.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Exodus 20: 12-14

12.    Honor your father and your mother, that your life may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you.

13.    You shall not murder.

14.    You shall not commit adultery.
