SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  Unqualified guests

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Lev. 22:10-16

Message of the verses:  “10 ¶  ‘No layman, however, is to eat the holy gift; a sojourner with the priest or a hired man shall not eat of the holy gift.  11  ‘But if a priest buys a slave as his property with his money, that one may eat of it, and those who are born in his house may eat of his food.  12  ‘If a priest’s daughter is married to a layman, she shall not eat of the offering of the gifts.  13  ‘But if a priest’s daughter becomes a widow or divorced, and has no child and returns to her father’s house as in her youth, she shall eat of her father’s food; but no layman shall eat of it.

14  ‘But if a man eats a holy gift unintentionally, then he shall add to it a fifth of it and shall give the holy gift to the priest.  15  ‘They shall not profane the holy gifts of the sons of Israel which they offer to the LORD, 16  and so cause them to bear punishment for guilt by eating their holy gifts; for I am the LORD who sanctifies them.’”

After reading these verses and the commentary of Dr. Wiersbe, I have come to the conclusion that there were times in the lives of these priests that being a priest was difficult and it meet that they had to make choices that were based on the Word of God even though at times it would be very difficult.  If a priest’s daughter married outside of the priestly line and wanted to come over for a meal she or her husband or their children would not be able to eat of the meal with her father because she had married outside of the priestly line.  If a friend of the priest came over he too could not eat of the food that was sacrificed to the Lord because he was not of the priestly line.

In NT times difficult decisions have to be made by believers in order to stay true to the Word of God.  A Pastor should not marry an unbeliever to a believer and this could cause hurt feelings.  A parent should not allow a child of theirs to date an unbeliever and this too can cause trouble.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  There are times when I too must make decisions that may be very difficult to make, but by making them I am following the Word and will of God and this is what I should do at all times.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Make decisions that are honoring to the Word and will of God.
  2. Trust the Lord to give me guidance and to guide my path.
  3. Trust the Lord to teach me and for me to learn contentment, even in difficult times.

Memory verses for the week:                                              Exodus 20:13-17

14.    You shall not commit adultery.

15.    You shall not steal.

16.    You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

17.    You shall not covet your neighbor’s house, you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his male servant or female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
