Sin is Fit Only for the Fire (Lev. 13:52, 55, 57)

My Worship Time                              Focus:  Sin is fit only for the fire

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Lev. 13:52, 55, 57

Message of the verses:  52  "So he shall burn the garment, whether the warp or the woof, in wool or in linen, or any article of leather in which the mark occurs, for it is a leprous malignancy; it shall be burned in the fire.

“55  "After the article with the mark has been washed, the priest shall again look, and if the mark has not changed its appearance, even though the mark has not spread, it is unclean; you shall burn it in the fire, whether an eating away has produced bareness on the top or on the front of it.

“57  and if it appears again in the garment, whether in the warp or in the woof, or in any article of leather, it is an outbreak; the article with the mark shall be burned in the fire.”

First of all I want to say that I will not be going over every verse in this  13th chapter of Leviticus because of the format that I have been using to study it.

These verses here are speaking of leprosy and will be studied as if they were speaking of sin because leprosy and sin have many similarities.  One of the differences however is that there was not cure for leprosy in the OT times, but there is a cure for sin, and that of course is the forgiveness found in Jesus Christ to paid the price for sin.

These verses tell that if a garment of piece of leather or something else that has leprosy cannot be taken care of by washing or some other means of cleaning it that it must be put into the fire.  Jesus spoke a lot about hell, where the fire will never go out, and that is where people will go who do not trust in the Lord Jesus Christ alone for their salvation.  Here are a few verses that speak of hell:  “If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better to enter heaven with only one hand than to go into the unquenchable fires of hell with two hands.  41  "Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels.  20  And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone.  12  And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds.  13  And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds.  14  Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.  15  And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Hell is a real place where real people will go someday just as Rev. 20:15 says.  I have nothing to brag about when I say with confidence that my name is written in the Lambs book of life, but I do have something to be humble about and I do have something to praise the Lord forever about, through out all of eternity, because it is only by His grace, love and mercy that I will be able to praise the Lord for His wonderful gift of salvation.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Praise the Lord for the wonderful gift of salvation.
  2. Give myself to the Lord for service and worship today.
  3. Put on the spiritual armor.
  4. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
  5. Trust the Lord to take care of our financial problems and work out something for me to get a job and for both Sandy and I to have contentment in that job.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Exodus 20:8-11

  1. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
  2. Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
  3. but the seventh day is a Sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, or your male or female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you.
  4. For in six day the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
