The Sanctity of Judgment (Lev. 20 1-27)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                              Focus:  The sanctity of judgment

Bible Reading & Mediation                Reference:  Lev. 20:1-27

Message of the verses:  This commentary is on all of the twenty-seven verses that are in chapter twenty of Leviticus, and I will not cut and paste these verses here because of the length of them.

The 20th chapter of Leviticus gives the penalties for breaking the laws that God gave in earlier chapters of Leviticus.  There are a lot of death penalties given in the breaking of laws.  Dr. Wiersbe points out that there were fifteen offences that were punishable by death in God’s law.  If a person cursed his parents he would be stoned, or if he had intercourse with someone other than his spouse in most cases this too was punishable by death.  Breaking the Sabbath was punishable by death.

The children of Israel were now a nation and they were to be separated from the other nations of the world, and because God was holy, they to were to be holy, for God was going to use this nation to be a witness to the world on who He is and God was also going to use this nation to bring the Messiah into the world so that sin would be paid in full once and for all.

God’s laws should be the background for the nations of today in order to keep that nation from coming under the judgment of God.  As I write this our country is at a cross roads in determining whether or not it will turn back to follow the laws that God has made to protect His people from judgment.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I have been thinking about God’s laws and how they affect me and how they affect the nation that I am living in for a long period of time, and I am thankful that I can study this portion of Scripture and read from the commentary of Dr. Wiersbe on this subject, as it reinforces the things that I have been thinking about to be true.  I truly believe that God is judging America for turning her back on the laws and statues that she was founded on, and these laws that America were founded on were based on the Ten Commandment of God that are written in His Word for people to follow.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. I pray that God will use me to get His Word out to as many people that He will bring into my path to tell them about why this nation is in the spot it is in.

Memory verses for the week:                                              Exodus: 20:12-16

12.    Honor your father and your mother, that you days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you.

13.    You shall not murder.

14.    You shall not commit murder.

15.    You shall not steal.

16.    You shall not bear false wittiness against your neighbor.
