Natural Female Discharges (Lev. 15:19-24)

My Worship Time                              Focus:  Natural female discharges

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Leviticus 15:19-24

Message of the verses:  “19 ¶  ‘When a woman has a discharge, if her discharge in her body is blood, she shall continue in her menstrual impurity for seven days; and whoever touches her shall be unclean until evening.  20  ‘Everything also on which she lies during her menstrual impurity shall be unclean, and everything on which she sits shall be unclean.  21  ‘Anyone who touches her bed shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.  22  ‘Whoever touches any thing on which she sits shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.

23  ‘Whether it be on the bed or on the thing on which she is sitting, when he touches it, he shall be unclean until evening.  24  ‘If a man actually lies with her so that her menstrual impurity is on him, he shall be unclean seven days, and every bed on which he lies shall be unclean.”

This section talks about the normal monthly period that a woman gets that was designed by God in order for the woman to become pregnant and thus keep the human race going.  There is nothing wrong with all of this, but God would set up some laws that governed this.  These laws were made for the good of all and especially the woman who would be going through all of this.  There would be no sexual activity going on at this time for it would be more painful for the woman at this time and what she needed was rest because of what was going on with her.  All of the uncleanness that is spoken of here is ceremonially uncleanness.  The Rabbis said of verse twenty-four that a Hebrew man would never force himself upon a woman when she was having her period, but this was put in there incase the woman would get her monthly period while engaging in sexual activity.  The cleanliness was also an issue for this time for both the woman and all who would come in contact with her at this time.  It is somewhat different in today’s society in the Western world because of all the new devices that help to keep a woman cleaner at this time.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I would like to look back at when God created both man and woman and He said that it was “very good” after creating mankind and so what both the woman and the man go through as a result of this creation was how God intended it.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
  2. Trust the Lord to give me the grace to go through the things that are not so pleasant to go through at this time of my life.
  3. Trust the Lord to teach me contentment and for me to learn to be content.
  4. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
  5. Put on the spiritual armor today because I am in a battle.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Exodus 20:8-12

8.       Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

9.       Six days you shall labor and do all your work,

10.  but the seventh day is a Sabbath of the Lord your God, in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you.

11.  For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

12.  Honor your father and your mother, that the days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you.
