Determing God's Will (Lev. 24:12-16)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  Determining God’s will

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Leviticus 24:12-16

Message of the verses:  “12  They put him in custody so that the command of the LORD might be made clear to them.  13  Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 14  "Bring the one who has cursed outside the camp, and let all who heard him lay their hands on his head; then let all the congregation stone him.  15  "You shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If anyone curses his God, then he will bear his sin.  16 ‘Moreover, the one who blasphemes the name of the LORD shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall certainly stone him. The alien as well as the native, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death.”

Moses did not have the correct answer in this situation in order to give the correct decision as to whether or not this person should be sentenced to death because he was not totally a child of Abraham since his father was Egyptian and his mother an Israelite, from the tribe of Dan.  God had given Moses both civil and religious laws and the answer was not in either so that is why Moses had this man “locked up” until he spoke with the Lord to get the correct answer.  There are precepts and also precedents in the Word of God to follow and this was not in either up to this point, but now it is in there because Moses was humble and sought the Lord to find the correct answer.

The man was stoned and the witness had to be the ones to lay their hands on him and then throw the first stone.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  There is a decision for me to make as to whether or not I should go to Hawaii to work or to stay at home and go back to work at the church on a full time basis.  In the commentary on this section Dr. Wiersbe said that immature Christians want to have an answer for all of their decisions spelled out in the Bible and then they do not have to dig into the Bible for study or do not have to go to their believing friends to pray about the problem and in the process grow in their faith.  I have been praying about this decision and have asked others to pray about it and I have not found any true answers in the Scriptures except what I have been looking at this morning and that is to talk to the Lord about this just as Moses talked to Him about this situation found in the verses above.  If I had my way about this I would go and live most any place that I have visited in my lifetime rather than stay here in North East Ohio where I have lived for sixty-one plus years.  I realize that this is a lack of contentment on my part and have prayed that I learn contentment through all of the things that the Lord has brought or allowed to come into my life, but have not really found it when it comes to living here.  I must say that some of this could be selfish on my part because there is a ministry here with my family and also with our church and this is part of the problem or the conflict.  I will continue to pray about this situation and asks others to pray about it too and hope that the Lord will not only give me clear direction, but also contentment in all of this.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Trust the Lord with this decision that the answer might bring honor and glory to the name of the Lord.

Memory verses for the week:                                              Romans 6:1-4

  1. What shall we say then?  Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?
  2. May it never be!  How shall we who died to sin still live in it?
  3. Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into his death?
  4. Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
