An Emergency Situation (Num. 9:6-12)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                              Focus:  An Emergency Situation

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Numbers 9:6-12

            Message of the verses:  “6  But there were some men who were unclean because of the dead person, so that they could not observe Passover on that day; so they came before Moses and Aaron on that day.  7  Those men said to him, "Though we are unclean because of the dead person, why are we restrained from presenting the offering of the LORD at its appointed time among the sons of Israel?"  8  Moses therefore said to them, "Wait, and I will listen to what the LORD will command concerning you."  9  Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 10  "Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If any one of you or of your generations becomes unclean because of a dead person, or is on a distant journey, he may, however, observe the Passover to the LORD.  11  ‘In the second month on the fourteenth day at twilight, they shall observe it; they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.  12  ‘They shall leave none of it until morning, nor break a bone of it; according to all the statute of the Passover they shall observe it.”

            These verses describe a problem that came up in the camp as some of the men had come in contact with a dead person and thus were not permitted into the camp until they were ceremonially clean. The came to Moses and asked if there were not some way that they could take part in the Lord’s Passover and so Moses came to the Lord and asked Him what they should do.  The Lord replied that these men and in the future any person who was away on a journey would be able to take part in the Passover celebration on the first day of the second month.  It was also told to them that they had to observe it just as if it were done during the first day of the second month (Vs.11-12).

            Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I can see wisdom on Moses part in asking God what should be done for a situation that has never come up before, and also grace from the Lord to allow these men to celebrate the Passover.  It is good to know that I worship a wise and gracious God.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service today.
  2. Know that the truth is that my old nature is dead.
  3. Trust the Lord to work out two events that are happening to me on this day:  Showing a couple of videos to our Pastors at church, and being on a video in order to give testimony of the Lord’s goodness as we go through a financial problem.

Memory verses for the week:                                              Romans 6:1-7

  1. What shall we say then?  Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?
  2. May it never be!  How shall we who died to sin still live in it?
  3. Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?
  4. Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
  5. For if we have become untied with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection,
  6. knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves of sin;
  7. for he who has died has been freed from sin.
