My Worship Time           Focus:  God receives His people’s sacrifices

Bible Reading & Meditation:     Exodus 27:1-8; 38:1-7

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  "And you shall make the altar of acacia wood, five cubits long and five cubits wide; the altar shall be square, and its height shall be three cubits.  2  "You shall make its horns on its four corners; its horns shall be of one piece with it, and you shall overlay it with bronze.  3  "You shall make its pails for removing its ashes, and its shovels and its basins and its forks and its firepans; you shall make all its utensils of bronze.  4  "You shall make for it a grating of network of bronze, and on the net you shall make four bronze rings at its four corners. 5  "You shall put it beneath, under the ledge of the altar, so that the net will reach halfway up the altar.  6  "You shall make poles for the altar, poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with bronze.  7  "Its poles shall be inserted into the rings, so that the poles shall be on the two sides of the altar when it is carried.  8  "You shall make it hollow with planks; as it was shown to you in the mountain, so they shall make it.”

“1 ¶  Then he made the altar of burnt offering of acacia wood, five cubits long, and five cubits wide, square, and three cubits high.  2  He made its horns on its four corners, its horns being of one piece with it, and he overlaid it with bronze.

3  He made all the utensils of the altar, the pails and the shovels and the basins, the flesh hooks and the firepans; he made all its utensils of bronze.  4  He made for the altar a grating of bronze network beneath, under its ledge, reaching halfway up.  5  He cast four rings on the four ends of the bronze grating as holders for the poles.  6  He made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with bronze.  7  He inserted the poles into the rings on the sides of the altar, with which to carry it. He made it hollow with planks.”

It is impossible for me to put into a SD all of the significance of each of these pieces of furniture that are in the tabernacle for the meaning of each one is so rich that I am sure that it has take people whole books to explain their meaning.  The writer to the book of Hebrews explains some of these meanings as I have referenced from Hebrews for many of the articles that are in the tabernacle.

We now come to the brazen altar and there is a picture of it on the first page of this SD.  The brazen altar is made of acacia wood and it is covered in bronze not gold.  Bronze is a picture of judgment in the Scriptures. (Num. 21:4-9; Deut. 28:23; Rev. 1:15)

When one looks at the tabernacle and where it is located there is special meaning as to where all of the articles are located.  There is a large fence like structure around the outside of the tabernacle with a thirty foot opening in the front of it where the people must come into in order to make their sacrifices.  There is only one way into the tabernacle which reminds me of what Jesus said in John 14:6, “Jesus *said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”  Jesus also made a similar statement in John 10:9, “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.”  Just as today there is only one way to get to God, and that is through Jesus Christ because of the sacrifice that He made for the sins of the world, so there was only one way to get into the tabernacle and that was through the thirty foot opening and then the first thing one had to do was to offer a sacrifice for that was the first article that was inside the fence.  In the back was the holy place and the holy of holies, but only the priests could enter into the holy place and only the high priest could enter into the holy of holies and only once a year could he go into it and he had to have the blood of a sacrifice when he went into it.  All of this is a picture of Jesus Christ and what He has done in order to provide an acceptable sacrifice for all who will accept it.

“The way into the presence of God began at the brazen altar where innocent victims died for guilty sinners.  In short, the brazen altar takes us immediately to Calvary where the Son of God died for the sins of the world.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I do not want to take for granted or take lightly what it was that Jesus Christ did when He the innocent Son of God became sin for me as he took my judgment and punishment while He was on the cross, “for without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.”

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Remember what it cost God to provide salvation for me.
  2. Continue to pray for the salvation of my daughter Michele and my nephew Kelly.
  3. Trust that the Lord will provide a way of escape for me when tests and temptations get too hard.

Memory verses for the week:                      Exodus 20:1-3

  1. Then God spoke all these words, saying,
  2. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
  3. You shall have no other God’s before me.
