Priest Are Chosen to Serve God

My Worship Time           Focus:  Priests are chosen to serve God

Bible Reading & Meditation     Reference:  Exodus 28:1,3, 41; 29:1, 44

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  "Then bring near to yourself Aaron your brother, and his sons with him, from among the sons of Israel, to minister as priest to Me—Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons.

“3  "You shall speak to all the skillful persons whom I have endowed with the spirit of wisdom, that they make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister as priest to Me.

“41  "You shall put them on Aaron your brother and on his sons with him; and you shall anoint them and ordain them and consecrate them, that they may serve Me as priests.

“1 ¶  "Now this is what you shall do to them to consecrate them to minister as priests to Me: take one young bull and two rams without blemish.

“4  "I will consecrate the tent of meeting and the altar; I will also consecrate Aaron and his sons to minister as priests to Me.”

First thing I want to say is that I have began a new chapter in Warren Wiersbe’s book on Exodus and this chapter is entitled, “THE HOLY PRIESTHOOD.”  This chapter, as seen by the title, is about the priesthood that God began in this book of Exodus, and it also teaches some things about the priesthood of believers that is taught in the New Testament.

As I look at the five verses that I am going over today each one of them has similar words in them that help make the point of this lesson, and that is the words “to me” speaking of the fact that the priesthood of Aaron was first of all to serve the Lord.  They also had to serve the people, but first of all they were to serve the Lord and when they lost that focus the nation of Israel would find its self in a lot of trouble, so much trouble that the priests were actually allowing the people to worship idols in the temple of God.  (See Mal. 1:6-2:9)

This is true for God’s people today, as they are to serve the Lord as their first obligation.  If this is done the He will work in us and through us to accomplish His work in this world.  An example of this is found in the 21st chapter of John when Jesus restored Peter as one of His disciples.  He asked Peter three times, “Do you love me.”  He did not ask if Peter loved the people, of if he loved the ministry, but if he loved Him.

The priests had to wear a special garment in order to serve the Lord at the tabernacle and if they did not wear it they could actually loose their lives.  This garment gave them dignity and honor as they served the Lord in it similar to a soldier or a nurse today.  This garment also revealed spiritual truths relating to their ministry and even our ministry today.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  As I have been going through some of the most difficult times in my life that I have ever gone through it has brought great discouragement to me as a believer in Jesus Christ.  So much so that I have even became angry with the Lord for not allowing me to find a way of escape from this trouble.  As I was studying this lesson today I have found out that perhaps I had my en’fasus on the wrong seli ‘bale.  I have forgot that my first priority was to serve the Lord, even in times of trouble and this I need to correct.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. To serve the Lord, making that the first priority in my life.
  2. To make it to church this evening.

Memory verses for the week:                      Exodus 20:1-3

  1. Then God spoke all these words, saying,
  2. I am the Lord Your God who brought you our of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
  3. You shall have not other gods before me.
