The Priests Were Feed (Ex. 29:22-28, 31-34)

My Worship Time           Focus:  The priests were fed

Bible Reading & Meditation     Reference:  Ex. 29:22-28, 31-34; Lev. 8:25-29

Message of the verses:  “22  "You shall also take the fat from the ram and the fat tail, and the fat that covers the entrails and the lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them and the right thigh (for it is a ram of ordination), 23  and one cake of bread and one cake of bread mixed with oil and one wafer from the basket of unleavened bread which is set before the LORD; 24  and you shall put all these in the hands of Aaron and in the hands of his sons, and shall wave them as a wave offering before the LORD.  25  "You shall take them from their hands, and offer them up in smoke on the altar on the burnt offering for a soothing aroma before the LORD; it is an offering by fire to the LORD.  26  "Then you shall take the breast of Aaron’s ram of ordination, and wave it as a wave offering before the LORD; and it shall be your portion.  27  "You shall consecrate the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the heave offering which was waved and which was offered from the ram of ordination, from the one which was for Aaron and from the one which was for his sons.  28  "It shall be for Aaron and his sons as their portion forever from the sons of Israel, for it is a heave offering; and it shall be a heave offering from the sons of Israel from the sacrifices of their peace offerings, even their heave offering to the LORD.

“31  "You shall take the ram of ordination and boil its flesh in a holy place.

32  "Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram and the bread that is in the basket, at the doorway of the tent of meeting.  33  "Thus they shall eat those things by which atonement was made at their ordination and consecration; but a layman shall not eat them, because they are holy.  34  "If any of the flesh of ordination or any of the bread remains until morning, then you shall burn the remainder with fire; it shall not be eaten, because it is holy.

“25  He took the fat, and the fat tail, and all the fat that was on the entrails, and the lobe of the liver and the two kidneys and their fat and the right thigh.  26  From the basket of unleavened bread that was before the LORD, he took one unleavened cake and one cake of bread mixed with oil and one wafer, and placed them on the portions of fat and on the right thigh.  27  He then put all these on the hands of Aaron and on the hands of his sons and presented them as a wave offering before the LORD.  28  Then Moses took them from their hands and offered them up in smoke on the altar with the burnt offering. They were an ordination offering for a soothing aroma; it was an offering by fire to the LORD.  29  Moses also took the breast and presented it for a wave offering before the LORD; it was Moses’ portion of the ram of ordination, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.”

There is only one more chapter in Warren Wiersbe’s book on Exodus and then my plans are to begin the book of Leviticus, and I hope that when I go through that book there will be further more in depth studies of all the offerings that are spoken of in the book of Exodus.

As for today’s lesson the wave offering is the sacrifice that is talked most about and this sacrifice or offering was waved before the Lord and then part of this is given to the priests to eat and it is a holy meal for them for no other persons are suppose to eat of it and it must be eaten in the area of the tabernacle and if there is any left over then it must be burned in the morning.  In the future when people would bring certain sacrifices to be offered to the Lord the priests would be able to eat a certain portion of certain sacrifices.

In the book of 1 Samuel this practice became corrupt and so God had to punish those priests because of their sinful practices that they were doing.  Mal. Also speak of this kind of sinful practices and again God would punish the priests.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  God has provided a way for the priests in the OT to receive food as a result of their work that they were doing in the tabernacle and I think that this principle is passed on for believers in the NT times.  If I follow the Lord’s leading and do the work that He has provided then I will have enough money to have food for my family.  In the letter that Paul wrote to the people in Thessalonica he told them if they did not work then they would not eat.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Trust the Lord to guide me through this day following His Words, “The just shall live by faith.”
  2. Put on the whole armor of God.

Memory verses for the week:                      Exodus 20:1-4

  1. Then God spoke all these words, saying,
  2. I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
  3. You shall have no other gods before Me.
  4. You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.
