The Priests Were Marked by the Blood

My Worship Time           Focus:  The priests were marked by the blood

Bible Reading & Meditation     Reference:  Exodus 29:19-22; Lev. 8:22-24

Message of the verses:  “19  "Then you shall take the other ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram.  20  "You shall slaughter the ram, and take some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear and on the lobes of his sons’ right ears and on the thumbs of their right hands and on the big toes of their right feet, and sprinkle the rest of the blood around on the altar.  21  "Then you shall take some of the blood that is on the altar and some of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron and on his garments and on his sons and on his sons’ garments with him; so he and his garments shall be consecrated, as well as his sons and his sons’ garments with him.  22  "You shall also take the fat from the ram and the fat tail, and the fat that covers the entrails and the lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them and the right thigh (for it is a ram of ordination).

“22  Then he presented the second ram, the ram of ordination, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram.  23  Moses slaughtered it and took some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear, and on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot.  24  He also had Aaron’s sons come near; and Moses put some of the blood on the lobe of their right ear, and on the thumb of their right hand and on the big toe of their right foot. Moses then sprinkled the rest of the blood around on the altar.”

This section speaks of the next sacrifice that was offered in this ceremony that would consecrate the priests for the service of the Lord.  I might mention that not all of the high priests would serve the Lord in the way that they were suppose to and this shows me that it is a heart thing, in other words the heart of the priest must be changed in order for him to serve the Lord and if that is not done then all the ceremony will not do anything for him.  The priest must do his work with a changed heart and walk by faith before the Lord to serve Him.

As for the blood being put on the right earlobe, the right thumb, and the right big toe here is the explanation for that:  On the right earlobe means that the priest must listen to the Word of God, on the right thumb means that the priest must do the work of the Lord, and on the right toe means that the priest must walk with the Lord.

Warren Wiersbe points out that by putting the blood on these areas of the priests body made them a living sacrifice just as Paul wrote about in Romans 12:1 where he wrote, “I beseech you brethren by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto the Lord, which is your reasonable service of worship.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  If I think that just the act of doing my devotions each and every day will make me more pleasing to the Lord if I don’t do them by faith that He will teach me and lead me through the studying of His Word I am fooling myself.  The just shall live by faith, and that means to me that I cannot do it on my own, but through the power of the Holy Spirit using the Word of God to lead me and to guide me each day of my life.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Walk by faith so that I can fulfill the Law of God.
  2. Be lead by the Lord each day, trust Him to guide my paths.
  3. Continue to be taught contentment through all of the tests and trials that I am going through.

Memory verses for the week:                      Exodus 20:1-4

  1. Then God spoke all these words, saying,
  2. I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
  3. You shall have no other gods before Me.
  4. You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.
