The Ordination Ram Eaten (Lev. 8:31-36)

My Worship Time           Focus:  The ordination ram eaten

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Lev. 8:31-36

Message of the verses:  “31 ¶  Then Moses said to Aaron and to his sons, "Boil the flesh at the doorway of the tent of meeting, and eat it there together with the bread which is in the basket of the ordination offering, just as I commanded, saying, ‘Aaron and his sons shall eat it.’  32  "The remainder of the flesh and of the bread you shall burn in the fire.  33  "You shall not go outside the doorway of the tent of meeting for seven days, until the day that the period of your ordination is fulfilled; for he will ordain you through seven days.  34  "The LORD has commanded to do as has been done this day, to make atonement on your behalf.  35  "At the doorway of the tent of meeting, moreover, you shall remain day and night for seven days and keep the charge of the LORD, so that you will not die, for so I have been commanded."  36  Thus Aaron and his sons did all the things which the LORD had commanded through Moses.”

The ordination offering was very similar to the fellowship offering, but one thing that was different was that the left over meat could be eaten the next day with the fellowship offering, while it had to be burned up with the ordination offering.

According to Exodus 29:35-56 Moses would offer the same sacrifices each day of this seven day ordination dedication, while Aaron and his sons would have to stay in the tabernacle for seven days as this dedication went on.  If they would have left the tabernacle they would have died because of their disobedience to the Lord’s command.  Verse thirty-six shows an important lesson for all to read in that it says “thus Aaron and his sons did all the things which the Lord had commanded through Moses.”

The priests had a great responsibility to perform in their worship of the Lord and with they also had great privileges because of the office of being priests before the Lord.  Some of the priest later on would use the privileges of the office but would not do the responsibilities of the office and thus would be punished for their sinful actions.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  As a “believer priest” before the Lord I too have great privileges and great responsibilities to do before the Lord and just as Aaron and his sons would doo all that was commanded of them I too want to do the things that God commands me to do.  Jesus said that “if you love Me you will keep my commandments.”

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Trust in the Lord with all of my heart and lean not upon my own understanding, in all of my ways acknowledge the Lord and then He will direct my paths.
  2. Give myself to the Lord for service and worship this day.
  3. Trust that the Lord will teach me contentment through the things that He brings into my life and the things that He allows to come into my life, and that I will learn contentment through these things.
  4. Put on my spiritual armor.

Memory verses for the week:                      Exodus 20:4-7

  1. You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.
  2. You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children on the third and forth generations of those who hate me,
  3. but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love me and keep my commandments.
  4. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.
