The Turban (Ex. 28:36-38; 39:27-31)

My Worship Time           Focus:  The Turban

Bible Reading & Meditation     Reference:  Ex. 28:36-38; 39:27-31

Message of the verses:  “36  "You shall also make a plate of pure gold and shall engrave on it, like the engravings of a seal, ‘Holy to the LORD.’  37  "You shall fasten it on a blue cord, and it shall be on the turban; it shall be at the front of the turban.  38  "It shall be on Aaron’s forehead, and Aaron shall take away the iniquity of the holy things which the sons of Israel consecrate, with regard to all their holy gifts; and it shall always be on his forehead, that they may be accepted before the LORD.

“27  They made the tunics of finely woven linen for Aaron and his sons,

28  and the turban of fine linen, and the decorated caps of fine linen, and the linen breeches of fine twisted linen, 29  and the sash of fine twisted linen, and blue and purple and scarlet material, the work of the weaver, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.  30  They made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and inscribed it like the engravings of a signet, "Holy to the LORD."  31  They fastened a blue cord to it, to fasten it on the turban above, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.”

Again the picture of the high priest can be seen in the SD of July 24, 2008.

Being Holy unto the Lord seems to be the theme of what the turban stands for as the words Holy to the Lord are inscribed on the gold band that is attached to the turban, or the turban was attached to it.

Warrant Wiersbe points out that Jesus Christ did not die to make us happy but He died to make us Holy and if a person is holy he can have true happiness because his sins are forgiven and he has a relationship with the Lord.

Holiness also involves having a “reverence and godly fear” of the Lord.  I went over this in an earlier SD, and having a reverent fear of the Lord takes balance as I must worship the Lord with a reverent fear, yet I am also to know that I cannot please the Lord by trying to do things on my own in order to “make points” with Him.  As I stated before the Bible is a book of balance and my life has to be in this Biblical balance, which is, at times, a hard thing to do and even impossible without the help of the Holy Spirit.

The high priest was the only one to wear this turban, as the other priest did have a head covering, but not like this one.

Jesus Christ, my High Priest does not need this type of turban on His head for He is Holy because He is God.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Trying to keep my worship and knowledge of why God is,  is a very hard thing for me to do and without the help of the Holy Spirit I will never be able to do this and thus be pleasing to the Lord in my worship of Him.  I do have a reverent fear of my Lord knowing that He is God and that He is perfectly holy.  There are too many times when I want to bring God down to the level that I am in, and thus loose the holy reverence for Him.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Fear the Lord with a Holy reverence.
  2. Trust the Lord to guide my path in all that I do.
  3. Worship the Lord in a way that is pleasing to Him as I go to church this morning.
  4. Put on the spiritual armor today.

Memory verses for the week:                      Exodus 20:1-4

  1. Then the Lord spoke all these words, saying,
  2. I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
  3. You shall have no other gods before me.
  4. You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.
